[2020] Newbie looking for some help.

So I've seen a lot about getting over the curve, end-game players having weapons that will shred me and armor that my weapons will basically bounce off but I still have found enjoyment in the game. I'm at the point where I'm scared to make engagements, but I'm also scared to take my PFC in and lose all my stuff constantly as I die to pretty much anything. I've been doing Scav runs in Factory to recoup a bit (with some nice prizes from time to time to keep me afloat) but I don't really feel like I'm going anywhere. Can I get some tips? Maybe someone to show me the ropes?
