The reasons could be:

  1. networking failures on the line
  2. hardware hiccups
  3. client errors and issues

  5. game server application errors (they are minimized at this point)
  6. game server overloading issues (pretty rare too)

But it's not just that map. You can look at Woods and despite having the sun right overhead you can't see shit if it's under a tree. Visibility is just pretty poor right now in general.

  2. What about the optics overhaul part 2? I think you guys should seriously just ask for/buy off the work of that guy who redid everything himself at this point if it's not a priority. A lot of the longer range scopes are completely unusuable due to awful oversized reticles with either fixed or niche zoom levels. Also, I weep every time I see an ACOG in-game.

Can you consider removing turn speed modifiers from equipment?

This feature:

- Makes the game feel more inconsistent when shooting for newer players

- Is easily avoided by changing in-game sensitivity for experience players

- Incentivises players to use a smaller range of kits, hurting loadout diversity

Move speed and ergo penalties are already doing a good job of making bigger/bulkier equipment harder to use, without changing mouse sensitivity

Also, a related ask: some sights like the Walther MRS have different sensitivity to other red dots/reflex sights - please can we streamline these so they are all the same?

Edit: One more thing, the biggest quality of life improvement the game could make is allowing us to use the inventory/flea whilst loading into raid. Is this possible?

Hi Nikita! Happy to see your return to Reddit, even though it's a toxic wasteland. You sir have thick skin and are deserving of much respect.

First question: What was the reason for expanding Shooter Born in Heaven to 6 maps and 125m? If I remember correctly, it used to only be on 4 maps. Any chance the minimum range could go back to 100m? So many maps run into issues between 100m and 125m that it causes a lot of headaches. Some examples:

  • Customs: Fortress to crackhouse isn't 125m.
  • Customs: Skelitor to train bridge isn't 125m.
  • Reserve: Dome to Checkpoint fence isn't 125m.

Second question: Any chance Killa could spawn in more predictable places? It's quite the headache to try and find him, whereas on other maps its easier to find Reshala, Sturman, Glukhar, etc. Killa can hide in any of 200 places on Interchange, and with a map as large (and empty) it makes for quite a boring grind. Funneling the boss to key areas would make for a much more exciting and fun gameplay experience. 2A: Also IMO the Goons need some sort of special smoke colored airdrop, to let you know they're on the map, they're so rare that most times your dead before you know they exist.

Third question: Are there any changes coming to random number generated loot spawns? I find better loot in duffle bags than previously known hotspots for loot.

Fourth question: If you are right-side peeking and walk out around a corner, there have been tests done, that, on average, the player peaking as a 200ms(!!!) advantage over the person being peaked. This can lead to false cheating accusations. I'm glad BSG is working on a notification to the reporter if a cheater is banned, but the quality of the reports would go up if it were more certain a person is cheating. Aside from clients having faster connection speed, what else can be done to reduce this advantage to be comparable to other first person shooters?

Fifth question: I know that you said that major features aren't coming to the game until release, but can you share any Stash/inventory management planned features? Kit selection, better filter tools, faster ways to sell loot to traders/flea, etc., if any? I particularly loved Verita's short on this (PS: I strongly encourage you to watch all 8 of his "quality of life" shorts, some amazing ideas in there). I think minimizing downtime between raids would be a welcome change.

Sixth and final question: Sorry long list! If you are killed by a traitor scav, the traitor is punished with negative Fence reputation, but you, the victim, are also punished by time lost. Are there any plans to flesh out this system a little more, or is it just the way you guys like it?

PS: I'm level 49 and over 900 raids in, and having a great time this wipe, thank you and the team for all you do (your music rocks and Tarkov needs more of it!). I'm only a handful of quests away from Kappa and I'm super excited.

  1. we added more maps to make it easier
  2. we increased killa spawn chance
  3. it a balancing question
  4. we are optimizing networking and delay speeds but it will not go away totally unfortunately
  5. yes. there will be gear presets and other QoL features
  6. its ok

Hi Nikita, long-time player here and unconditional lover of your vision of the game.

Related to the above:

  • Is it possible to obfuscate the K/D ratio so cheaters can't actually see it?
  • It is possible to separate K/D ratio into PMC K/D and Scav K/D? (although it will mean you need to track if you died to Scav or PMC for each separately).

This will help with cheaters targetting "high K/D" players, which is kind of putting a stop on the continuing cycle of "high K/D = 100% a cheater" mentality.

K/D ratio (as it's currently calculated) includes both PMC and Scav kills, which makes it inherently untrustworthy and a very misleading statistic. Most veteran players will not have trouble killing thousand of Scavs during a wipe, increasing their ratio to a very high number. These people will get mistaken for being cheaters and targeted, especially when an ESP user can see their K/D + equipment.

If my theory is true, putting a stop on that vicious cycle, should make cheaters stop misleading/confusing themselves into believing people with higher K/D are after them to kill them.

we will remove a lot of unneeded info from client with future update

Can you consider adding a separate single player/co-op locally saved profile instance?

I'm sure you're already aware of the add-on that does one of those, and if you don't plan on adding it yourself, can you consider supporting it in an official capacity?

I think this would be an especially good idea now, considering the current state of the game. If you support the mod in an official capacity, and collaborate with the creators, they can make it so that it has to be launched through the normal launcher, making owning the game an absolute requirement to play, even though the creators already go to great extent to make sure you already need to own a copy of the game.

This would also open up the game to people who don't have time to keep up with the wipe cycles. To be blunt, in addition to the current situation, having to try and keep up with the wipe or get left behind is one of the reasons I don't bother playing much anymore.

If you officially endorsed the mod, this would open up the game to people who normally never buy Tarkov because the wipe cycles make it inaccessible to them, and they don't have the time to try and keep up.

This would also open up the game to people who are completely overwhelmed by the online aspects of the game.

This would be more sources of revenue for you, as more people would know about it, and would buy the game with the intention of playing it offline only. And since it is offline and handled locally, it would lessen server load, meaning less server costs for you as well.

As for co-op, this could be a saved instance between players. This could also largely be handled locally, meaning less server overhead. This would have to be something you guys make.

You kind of already have the framework for this. It'd basically be like offline co-op, but with a separate profile that saves the data from the offline raids. Maybe make this an EOD only feature like it currently is, and make the server handled locally instead of relying on the co-op offline servers like it is now.

I understand this goes against your stated vision for the game, but a lot of people want something like this, because they can't enjoy the game due to its online issues, or they want to play it at their own pace instead of having to keep up with the wipe.

Adding or supporting either one of these would end up giving you a completely new source of income that you're currently leaving untapped, if you need a financial reason to do it.

not now. maybe later after release and some DLCs after

Custom netcode is REQUIRED for an FPS of this size on Unity.

My case and point is Rust. Rust development ENTIRELY REWROTE the netcode. There are multiple development blogs about it. If some sort of weird desync occurs, the netcode handles it. It doesn't give the client some level of authority it shouldn't have. The client will say "I hit him" and the server CHECKS then replies "Yes" or "Invalid".

It keeps the level of desync death bullshit to a minimum. In the old days of Rust you could lag your internet, turn a corner and shoot someone in the face. Then unlag and let the game play out. Unity has since implemented better base code. BSG has improved that base code. It's still flawed at the core however.

We've kinda known forever that Unity's netcode is trash. It works for MOST stuff by low latency FPS games, not good. PubG's beta netcode was on par w/ current Unity. That was 5? 6? years ago. That's on EARLY Unreal 4 code too.

How likely is it that we will see a network overhaul and tick rate update in the future, let's say by the end of 2023?

all of this is being done for arena

FIR. lvl 15 flea were done for slowing progress. not for antiRMT

no droping items were done against boosting and RMT. again - against unfair advantages

You have already answered a bunch of question I would ask, but what I am and I believe many others ultimately want to know. What changes BSG is planning to make in the future? Are you thinking about changing development directions? Did your short/mid/long term goals changed?

Lastly, thank you for the hard work you guys do at BSG. I want you all to know, the community including me is only pissed because we all love the game that much, and we all just wish to get the best possible entertainment we can get out of it. The communication in the last couple of days has been amazing and once again, thank you for Escape From Tarkov.

Hey Nikita. You answered earlier that hundreds of thousands play every day.

Could you give us an average number for, say the month of January?

Then could you give is the number of bans in the month of January?

I made a post a few days back trying to calculate the % of active players that get banned for cheating. The number I came up with was 7.4% based on very limited data and alot of assumptions. Is three any way you could give us hard data for the month of january?

i dont have this info at my hand. but its really low amount comparing to overall players. something like half of percent or even lower

yes i play the game and i struggle too. this is what eft is about. start to play, get rekt, repeat, become better

I cant play the game properly right now as its too painfall but im willing to put in some hours to be a honey pot but the reporting system is so obscure it feels like a waste of my time.

Im not sure making videos of the cheaters is the right approach but im up for helping if it makes a difference.

He has played for over 3 years with those cheats and has never been banned since. It seems like if the cheater isnt going straight blatant and is actully trying to hide it, they get away with it. Seems like BattleEye is a bad software.

You've partially answered this before, but can you explain how often the flea market suspicious offer reports are reviewed?

It's really bloody annoying having people lob grenades at you in pitch black when you've been silent and are unseen for 10 minutes on Shoreline because they've got ESP, but it's arguably even worse to go look at the flea market and see someone with 150+ flea rating selling a 50-pack of LEDxs, 150 GPUs and 20 marked room keys.

It's a regular slap in the face and it's probably the worst and most aggravating thing for players to see - they use the flea regularly and to see people who have obviously been loot-hoovering all the maps for so long that they've got that many items and that much flea rating makes people think no-one is enforcing anti-cheat.

right they being reviewed constantly

I will probably only return if the devs fix the game and put measures in place to fix the overwhelming cheating problem in EFT. I believe I am not the only one. My question is how soon are you going to start taking action? Calender date if you can? And what is the action plan?

I would rather be able to control the recoil with my mouse than to rely on a skill that doesn't do much. The inertia i can get used to, it doesn't bother me, but if I have to land first few bullets on target that are crucial to whether the guy at the end of the barrel dies or not it's not really good to have that mechanic in the game.

My second question is when will you buff the loot behind the closed areas like doors?

already told that systems will be redone

That would be very helpful when deciding if how I died was legit or to a cheater. If we could check statistics on the account I would be more certain in my report. For example, if the account has a very short lifetime with very high PVP KDA. Number of kills in Head, thorax, arms, legs etc. It would help me to be more certain in my reports. I think splitting PVE KDA and PVP KDA is also a good idea. PVP-KDA should only include deaths to other players and not suicide/scav deaths to make it more clear how often you come out ahead vs a player. Making it harder for cheaters to just blow themselves up with nades to lower their KDA for example.

  1. More clarity on what is/isn't allowed. A lot of normal players feel likea criminal for dropping their buddy their weapon back in fear of being banned.

  2. Timely appeals process for bans. If a regular player is banned falsely, there is no way to ever play the game again unless they have a large following on twitter or get traction on reddit. In light of streamer manual bans and discord bans a lot of players feel worried they will get banned unjustly with no recourse from a single, client side POV that is desynced.

  3. Remove p2p flea barters. These are mostly scams for the less vigilant and facilitate RMT. I was made aware of this after I fell for one of these scam offers once myself.

  4. Cheaters. There is a lot of data you can harness on players in order to identify cheaters that other games aren't fortunate enough to have. People deviating far above average extracting with rare keycards, ledxs could easily be flagged and accounts reviewed. High level and K/D players suddenly going into factory naked and dying all night. New accounts with PMC k/ds more than 2 times the best PVP streamers.

  5. Trust with friends. A trust rating could be established with players that play a lot of raids together and drop restrictions could be removed between them. This could also be harnessed to stop RMT drop services by being more strict on what can be picked up between a squad when the "trust rating" is low.

Personally the netcode and audio issues are the most detrimental to my enjoyment of the game.

I have noticed the audio much improved this most recent patch.

The netcode is still a big issue, hopefully there are ways to reduce this as it has such a negative impact on gameplay that players must adopt a specific playstyle in order not succumb to peekers advantage.

Still my favourite game of all time despite the current flaws.

  1. answered it already
  2. right now we almost dont do any manual bans
  3. could you elaborate?
  4. yes. it will be changed
  5. good idea but still it can be used by abusers

I'm wondering if the spectating/end of match views etc will help?

Lastly what DAW do you like to use to make your Geneburn music? I really enjoy your soundtracks and just wish to know more about your process, as a musician myself.

Thank-you for these discussions, and I hope that things improve for us all. The community has been very critical of you and your team for some time; often in a very aggressive and disgusting way. Its unfair as most of us have no idea have no real knowledge of how to fix these things, and of course you want what is best for your game and your staff!

I know cheating is on everyone’s lips at the moment, but audio fixes are something I personally want more and other performance issues.

Although new content is always great, I’m honestly happy with what we have already and I think a lot of people are more interested in seeing the game reach a healthier state performance wise rather than more maps.

Edit: just realised this kind of request is exactly what started this post so it has already been asked
