s | all right welcome to the great Yves |
---|---|
s | downunder AMA with our lovely CCP |
s | representatives the first one up is |
s | Kigali go ahead sir today Kigali Kigali |
s | braved newbies brave collective my |
s | question is relating to the current |
s | state of the game appears to be well the |
s | current state of melsek appears to be a |
s | collection of giant blue donuts where |
s | everybody is trying to turn your sandbox |
s | into a car park diplomatic agreements |
s | going around and making friends with |
s | these guys and non invasion agreements |
s | and blowing up with these people he is |
s | actually making everything straight |
s | lines and destroying conflict in the |
s | game what have you got for us how can we |
s | turn it back into the sandbox that we |
s | know and love okay I can try though okay |
s | so there's a couple of answers to that |
s | question so do we have a concrete plan |
s | that we're moving on right now the |
s | answer is no but do we recognize that |
s | it's a problem yes and the reason why |
s | it's a problem is in some ways a game |
s | design it's also in some ways just |
s | player behavior winning in an economic |
s | game often times the best way to do that |
s | is not to go around and start a bunch of |
s | fights and so we we are looking at game |
s | design options to change it and we're |
s | also looking at social options to change |
s | it and sometimes the two will cross over |
s | so I guess the direct answer your |
s | question is yes but no specifics have |
s | been decided yet |
s | if I maybe comment a little bit on why I |
s | believe it is the case like what are the |
s | conditions that brought this about I |
s | think we have over the past seven eight |
s | years been giving too many tools to know |
s | SEC alliances to increase comfort |
s | I think the first mistake was to earn a |
s | CIMMYT of symmetry size the mineral |
s | distribution where people came self |
s | sufficient for the resource acquisition |
s | it in its region the game was actually |
s | completely designed to be the reverse so |
s | that it would never be self-sufficient |
s | so you would have to you would have to |
s | have access to the whole map either |
s | through aggression or pact making I |
s | think that's one condition I think the |
s | the soft system has been like stagnant |
s | in a way where everything has kind of |
s | settled into a certain comfort zone I |
s | think there are growth dynamics in the |
s | game the game is maintaining its player |
s | base it's not growing and when you when |
s | you have a fixed map and a growing game |
s | you almost force elements to UM topple |
s | pretty regularly and I think these |
s | conditions combined have brought about |
s | the stasis we're watching now and I |
s | think if you systematically start to |
s | unwind that we need to quote-unquote |
s | off with a mineral distribution we |
s | need to do something with a soft system |
s | which is I don't really have an answer |
s | but I think it's providing too much |
s | control in comfort and then I think |
s | there are limits elements like how like |
s | the local chart system creates even more |
s | mechanisms to provide control I think we |
s | have to systematically unwind some of |
s | these things to bring about conflict |
s | again |
s | and make it scary again and I think we |
s | need to get moving on that |
s | and I would rather do the wrong thing |
s | and cause havoc rather than to what sit |
s | in fear and just shimmy too so I don't |
s | like the idea of taking the ant hills |
s | and just or put them aflame put in the |
s | absence of any better idea that is what |
s | needs to happen next question is by I |
s | promise of Korea so I so many Korean |
s | player like paratus toid you about |
s | worried about your so good part of it |
s | made up a k2 visa system so it is |
s | opportune use so and transfer many |
s | people ship is serviced on Japan that is |
s | a completely breakdown so same happen to |
s | be worried about Korea's Korean |
s | translator translate |
s | we worry about that so far away's |
s | parodies interesting your java |
s | technology not that evil evil right i |
s | piece of tell you some korean game press |
s | worried about new that is |
s | seventeen-year-old it is too late to |
s | come korea korean so many people korean |
s | press the korean play italian interest |
s | eve online i hope i hope more korean guy |
s | come evil right but they will not |
s | because of because of pearl abyss korean |
s | players would not come yes i realize but |
s | you if you could maybe ask the question |
s | again so I can better understand is your |
s | concern about even Korea or is your |
s | concern about about the translation yes |
s | okay so so here would be my answer to |
s | that so poor Lopez has an irrational |
s | interest in EVE Online and and we us and |
s | pearl abyss are willing to do irrational |
s | things in Korea because of my irrational |
s | interest in Korea and their irrational |
s | interest in EVE Online when we were |
s | working on the Japanese translation with |
s | lakhs maximum the problem is the |
s | economics of maintaining the |
s | translations did not hold there the the |
s | ROI of maintaining the Japanese |
s | translation it's very high to maintain |
s | high quality Japanese translation so we |
s | share it down I do not think it will |
s | happen with the Korean translation |
s | because it is not necessarily done for |
s | business reasons |
s | it's it's done for the purposes of ccpm |
s | product is working together on a project |
s | that we want to be successful on so I |
s | would say the the conditions why we're |
s | making a Korean translations for iman |
s | line are built on a mutual interest in |
s | bringing together even Korea that are |
s | turned so in an irrational way so even |
s | if we don't have tens of thousands of |
s | people from Korea playing human line if |
s | we have a few thousands that will allow |
s | us to work together on a project which |
s | both companies are extremely excited to |
s | do and it's mainly done out of a massive |
s | petitioning by Pearl of his employees |
s | demanding that we have a Korean |
s | translation of even Korea so that would |
s | be my answer so have faith Jurek Rd from |
s | havoc cooperation in test alliance |
s | please ignore my question is with the |
s | recent production of the breakdown of |
s | players banned for boat like behavior by |
s | CCP peligro when of the community in EVE |
s | going to get an npc base within the |
s | drawing regions to help you deal with |
s | these BOTS menace so I like your |
s | question about the NPC base in the |
s | throne regions because it's extremely |
s | solution oriented I did not realize that |
s | that was a way to address it shame on me |
s | I'm very stupid but I learnt about it |
s | last night I think it's an excellent to |
s | apple solution which we should |
s | absolutely consider because the |
s | challenge with proof-of-work in EVE |
s | Online are quite enormous and I think we |
s | have let it slide for too long and now |
s | that we're taking action we're seeing a |
s | whole host of issues coming out of the |
s | woodwork but I I like your question |
s | because your phrasing it has a solution |
s | i I did not realize |
s | I'm sure some people in the design team |
s | I probably had similar ideas as well for |
s | how we can tackle boating and we're |
s | working closely with the CSM on that to |
s | get their feedback and also find the |
s | solutions that we can you know try to |
s | figure out and help with the boating |
s | situation in a phone line sorry I cut |
s | you in there Kevin one thing that I will |
s | say is we are considering that solution |
s | but it is not the only solution we're |
s | considering Thank You Matthew Fontana |
s | from brave collective I'm just curious |
s | if in the early days of investigating VR |
s | i Matthew Fontana from brave collective |
s | I'm curious if in the early days of |
s | investigating VR you ever put together a |
s | test build a VR client for EVE Online |
s | itself and how it went we we did talk |
s | about that but we did not do it the main |
s | challenge is that we have our own |
s | proprietary to engin brief and it's a |
s | lot of work to have that work on the |
s | earth and it's work that requires kind |
s | of unicorn resources which are usually |
s | PC in EVE Online backlog work Valkyrie |
s | was very much |
s | our first step in doing spaceships in |
s | hundred four and we're doing the same |
s | with Eve ether wars were using 104 |
s | I think at some point in the distant |
s | future we might even consider unreal |
s | fourth for Eve right now Eve is better |
s | at doing spaceships than on air for is |
s | but those guys are really good at |
s | improving their anthem I think there |
s | will be a point in time where unreal 4 |
s | will outclass even our own engine once |
s | they have done some things which I know |
s | are on the roadmap but are not high |
s | priority because not many people have |
s | the problem we have with tens of |
s | thousands of people talking out so we we |
s | talked about it I think Eve would make a |
s | good four year experience especially |
s | sort of passive activities like mining |
s | there's a kind of a hypnotic |
s | aspect that happens when you're kind of |
s | sort of serenely mining it's it's almost |
s | meditational so we talked about it think |
s | about it but we never moved on it |
s | because it would have required people |
s | that are usually busy improving the |
s | engine for him online and not where we |
s | are thank you blackouts in the kit by |
s | the way |
s | well Alliance bookmarks weaned people |
s | can't actually what here what I'm gonna |
s | say this is something that I know you |
s | guys have asked for a lot we have some |
s | ideas cooking in the background that we |
s | are hoping to get out sooner rather than |
s | later it's just a matter of how do I say |
s | this there's some things that we work on |
s | us as pet projects that we know really |
s | really delivered to certain desires of |
s | the community I suppose certain certain |
s | wishes of things that you guys have |
s | asked for for a long time they often |
s | take aside a sideline to other bigger |
s | things because we need to look after the |
s | whole community and so there are some |
s | things that we've been working on on the |
s | sidelines I can't say when they're |
s | coming out I can't say if they're going |
s | to answer what you have in your mind |
s | about water lines bookmarks are but they |
s | are things that are being worked on that |
s | I hope will get into your heads you know |
s | rather than later and and maybe go after |
s | that because I have a mic and I also |
s | have a voice |
s | so I mean it's a little embarrassing to |
s | sit on panels for decades asking about |
s | the Lions bookmarks and we never really |
s | have a good answer a it's a it's a it's |
s | pretty fundamental in the the whole of |
s | the Eve architecture why alliance |
s | bookmarks are |
s | really difficult to make it involves a |
s | construct we created 20 years ago called |
s | the DP row and that has certain |
s | limitation with Alliance bookmarks and |
s | frankly some aspects of Eve males rap up |
s | against extremely critically |
s | so while Alliance bookmarks sound like a |
s | little same we have core pockmarks why |
s | can't we have Alliance bookmarks they |
s | like trigger this weak point in the in |
s | the architecture able to do them well we |
s | actually have to create a whole new |
s | construct on how you manage persistent |
s | state in the database over to the user |
s | interface of him online it is done with |
s | the system called the DP bro which is |
s | extremely efficient and allows even line |
s | to be so sophisticated in terms of like |
s | them its axial nests in space but |
s | Alliance book Mars posts it beyond its |
s | limits so we have to take a pretty |
s | fundamental |
s | reaaargh it acting on some of those |
s | interaction patterns to be able to do |
s | them well and that's why we are talking |
s | on it as much as we have so that is the |
s | answer it's maybe not a great answer but |
s | that is the reason why we are taking so |
s | long to tackle this it's not because we |
s | don't understand the problem are aware |
s | of the need and all that it is just it |
s | triggers a whole cascade of things we |
s | have to have to do and to to invest the |
s | work in doing that we would have to |
s | forego a lot of other things in the |
s | meantime maintained of in tourism part |
s | of the Watchmen my questions regarding |
s | the sisters a of these we're wondering |
s | if those horrors are going to give us |
s | any capitals can you can you say that |
s | again it's so a yeah they're gonna give |
s | us any capitals here so if we were |
s | releasing new ships according to our new |
s | company guidelines for how we're making |
s | announcements I would not |
s | I can tell you though that if you look |
s | at everything that we've said this |
s | weekend you should be looking at try |
s | Glavine ships in the near future |
s | sisters of Eve is beloved and it's not |
s | off the table but it's not on our |
s | immediate roadmap hello I'm Gavin an |
s | Aussie from tickle the release of track |
s | Lavigne ships from concept of idea to |
s | actually releasing in-game can you guys |
s | tell us a little bit what that process |
s | looks like or the work involved yet at |
s | the try or the release of track Lavigne |
s | ships from initial concept to actually |
s | releasing in-game can you guys talk |
s | about what that process looks like and |
s | maybe some of the work involved the |
s | design of the new tech 2 ones and and |
s | they're performing well and the tech one |
s | ones just you know from the concept of |
s | we're going to really struggle avian |
s | ships to released in game this will be |
s | size matters I know too much about this |
s | game so so there were many constructs |
s | that went into the track libyans one of |
s | them was is that we have another system |
s | like DB row called dogma and and that is |
s | the system that manages all the |
s | attribute posting man if I like it's all |
s | the attributes in all the effects and we |
s | had not made a new weapons effect in a |
s | long time and we wanted to explore where |
s | is a different weapons effect from like |
s | lasers and hybrids and protectors and |
s | and all the current weapon in fact we |
s | had and the system underneath is |
s | actually extremely capable but it's very |
s | difficult to author new weapon effects |
s | inside that system but it's it's it's |
s | very like you can do a lot so CTP Rhys |
s | is named the telomeres in remembering |
s | all the dynamics is sometimes a struggle |
s | it's just not that most people yeah |
s | exactly |
s | like that indeed yeah he so he came up |
s | with this concept of the of the time |
s | wrapping up or the time is wrapping up |
s | over time so the the the elements were |
s | built around that okay we want to |
s | leverage this new weapon effect to make |
s | new weapon systems to make new skills so |
s | that was one strand of the inspiration |
s | the other strands had more to do with |
s | the art and but they came together in |
s | this kind of the way like it's probably |
s | the best example where we designed |
s | something end to end from oh here's the |
s | weapons effect here's the graphics and |
s | the construct mats it so when you look |
s | at this yet it all makes sense through |
s | and through a lot of the early spaces of |
s | even line the the actual gameplay of |
s | them and the look of them were kind of |
s | sort of retrofitted together after the |
s | fact because we have designers and an |
s | artist working in isolation and then it |
s | just kind of came together and then we |
s | saw that doesn't really fit does it and |
s | that's why you see turrets kind of just |
s | like they're juxtaposed on some of the |
s | ships I won't name any names but with |
s | the Tri Clarion's it started with his |
s | weapon in fact the art was built around |
s | it and that's why they are as cool as |
s | they are I might add to that and I don't |
s | know if I'm spoiling something or not |
s | rise and pointy bits worked on that |
s | together pointy bits is was one of the |
s | concept artists on the graphics and |
s | audio side and has since moved on to new |
s | projects for him but they worked |
s | together and came up with the idea of |
s | the entropic just integrators and that's |
s | not right is it |
s | yeah and and originally that was going |
s | to be a weapon system for anything it |
s | wasn't just going to be four trillion |
s | ships and then the ships came out and |
s | then the design team working on the |
s | turret for the for the e DS pushed it |
s | towards those ships specifically and |
s | then it became a true gravy and weapon |
s | system specifically because we developed |
s | that orb that came up off of the hull so |
s | then |
s | sort of it started general and then it |
s | became more isolated and more specific |
s | until it was just that but the tech that |
s | was laid down in the design of it is |
s | there and so the technology in New Eden |
s | for these things is is present and so |
s | it's possible for other races or other |
s | types of ships potentially to develop |
s | similar weaponry within the world of New |
s | Eden but of the design process was also |
s | the feel that we wanted for the NPC's in |
s | that particular space and some of the |
s | gameplay we really wanted to have in the |
s | MPC groups and so while that didn't that |
s | didn't force her hand at all with the |
s | design of the missile ships it it did |
s | give us a little bit of guidance and |
s | encouragement in different directions I |
s | know at the time we also looked at |
s | perhaps breaking away from some of the |
s | established I guess tropes of the of the |
s | universe every race has two types of |
s | Ewok except caldari and all of that sort |
s | of thing and we thought maybe maybe |
s | these guys don't have to comply to all |
s | of the standardized rules across the |
s | different races it goes for seven from |
s | tactical supremacy happy birthday |
s | birthday should we sing happy birthday |
s | to you know that Chinese really don't |
s | wanna hear that someone take this I've |
s | just learned to take like a ten-second |
s | poles every time so my question is about |
s | our local skill injectors and the sort |
s | of exponential growth of basically money |
s | in assets do you think you guys have |
s | gone a little too far with the ease of |
s | access from being able to go from one |
s | roll call to to default you know etc etc |
s | and the fact that this is contributing |
s | to the excessive amounts of like |
s | tightens supers and all those kind of |
s | things that are just blobbing the hell |
s | out of the game right now the fact that |
s | I've been dropped by a three-day-old |
s | Titan character is kind of concerning so |
s | do you guys think you've taken it just a |
s | little step too far |
s | are there any plans to maybe look at |
s | that or do you just enjoy making us hate |
s | our lives |
s | so anytime that you attempt to do an |
s | action in E or really in any game and |
s | there's one and only one logical choice |
s | we need to consider doing some design |
s | work and right now mining is in that |
s | position to a large degree so we've |
s | actually had several conversations about |
s | exactly how we're going to address it |
s | and we don't have a firm plan yet but it |
s | does need to be addressed we recognize |
s | that we need to sit down pull all the |
s | mining ships out and go like what what |
s | reason do I have to use this one what |
s | reason do I have to use this one and |
s | when we answer that question then we'll |
s | have a basis to answer all the other |
s | what about the injectors because that |
s | seems to be the key part of it because |
s | that's where you get the multiple roles |
s | in one guy so having the skills to fly a |
s | ship is not a problem if the ship is |
s | balanced so it's actually a great that |
s | needs event I I heard a great idea last |
s | night to solve the the mining issue is |
s | that when you have this massive |
s | industrial ships there's no downside in |
s | using them they they they just mind like |
s | Kevin was saying it's just more more |
s | more avant on the curve but it doesn't |
s | really work like that in reality every |
s | time you use extremely big industrial |
s | methods you ruin your environments at |
s | the same time like doing green |
s | sustainable farming it's a lot of effort |
s | for better product between industrial |
s | farming is is leave scorched earth |
s | behind so the idea i heard about |
s | yesterday which I found critical is that |
s | if the big industrial ships destroy the |
s | resources around the mastermind so they |
s | would have a strip mining effect where |
s | they where for every mineral mind they |
s | destroy ten others from the rocky mining |
s | from or they cause a danger for the raft |
s | to explode of course a toxic cloud to |
s | believe on a massive constellation level |
s | and things like that and it |
s | that's an interesting way to bring a |
s | counter action where we were the only |
s | mine in your enemy's territory with |
s | interest in terrestrial mining but at |
s | home you will be totally sustainable |
s | mining with lasers because you're like |
s | it's your cottage industry and you're |
s | protecting your own region so I think |
s | like this idea of like global warming |
s | like scorched earth and so these are |
s | elements we need to bring more into the |
s | question of like space harmony and |
s | protection so just an idea do I need to |
s | start texting people back in Iceland and |
s | probably panicking already |
s | captain endo from tactical supremacy um |
s | I was just wondering if there was any |
s | roadmap for the idea of Corp and |
s | Alliance roles to be a CEO based instead |
s | of the current system that's something |
s | that we've spoken about um |
s | team five-o it's we we maintain a wish |
s | list of things and one of them is a |
s | rework of corpse and alliances and in |
s | particular the roles especially seeing |
s | as we worked on all those structures and |
s | their ACL system in the first place it's |
s | unfortunately quite a long wish list and |
s | so it's it's not quite at the top |
s | there's there's other things that we |
s | want to do first but it is something |
s | that we have spoken about we'd really |
s | like to look at how you guys self |
s | organize I think it's really interesting |
s | especially we often get requests to up |
s | the cult members member limits because |
s | you guys like being in big groups and |
s | that might solve it for a couple of |
s | groups but it isn't necessarily solves |
s | it for everyone and so looking at how |
s | you guys self organize and therefore how |
s | you need to share the types of access to |
s | certain things is an interesting puzzle |
s | but it's not on our roadmap at the |
s | moment unfortunately it is something we |
s | think about that easy thank you |
s | I want to understand this a little more |
s | explain why you want to use a CL versus |
s | the Corporal can you can you well at the |
s | moment the way the Corp roles work it's |
s | not very intuitive some roles affect |
s | things you wouldn't expect like I |
s | believe to play within I hope you need |
s | structure management but not the other |
s | roles and then vice versa and then for |
s | actual hanger access you only have a sec |
s | so you've got your X number of hangers |
s | and you used to be able to use home |
s | stations but I don't believe that's |
s | currently working in studios so that |
s | limits you to one set of hangers but the |
s | way to when I use ACLs so then you could |
s | set each hanger individually station |
s | specifically with an ACO list so like |
s | Bob can pull from this system this |
s | hanger okay so you want to larger groups |
s | you have multiple structures way yeah |
s | well usually we think that the COPE and |
s | they just apply it to everybody now they |
s | wouldn't be able to apply it to a |
s | certain so it almost would be like in in |
s | like network security you would say like |
s | this particular folder has this |
s | particular like roles yeah you only need |
s | to be in a co-op to be given access to |
s | hangar I see so you know instead of |
s | taking all rows and applying to a Corp |
s | you want to take the roles and apply it |
s | to a specific container yeah I see okay |
s | hello don't tinkle with brave newbies so |
s | so with the implementation of right our |
s | oohs and sautés and Athyn oars and tatar |
s | --is there's this been explosion this |
s | huge democratization of industry in eve |
s | in which as we talk as you brought up |
s | earlier you can mine things pretty much |
s | everywhere and build what you need to |
s | build and it spread out from a very |
s | small teeny crew that was involved in |
s | that gameplay to now pretty much every |
s | player in the game can participate in |
s | this so that has been a very positive |
s | thing especially for new players they |
s | can build one thing to do that so when I |
s | hear discussion of well maybe we need to |
s | restrict that and go back to everything |
s | has to go to jitta we get the same |
s | effect like with contaminated Laurence |
s | fluid which is super expensive because |
s | it only comes out of one place how do |
s | you balance the pain that people who |
s | want to engage in this would now endure |
s | of I can't get it locally I can and I |
s | can't get this off a local market versus |
s | we're gonna create conflict because you |
s | have to go there how do you balance |
s | those things and I don't need the answer |
s | I just how do you prod you decide so I'm |
s | gonna of deftly avoid answering that in |
s | specific but generally speaking you you |
s | need to have multiple levels of |
s | engagement so new players should be able |
s | to access most systems not every system |
s | I was about to say that but that's not |
s | true a and there needs to be an entry |
s | point and needs to be things for them to |
s | do but that does not necessarily mean |
s | that they have to do everything so you |
s | can take a lot of that extra |
s | complication or extra steps and just |
s | bump it up so that it's it doesn't |
s | prevent you from getting involved with |
s | the system it just prevents you from |
s | mastering it and do you think that leads |
s | to conflict or does it just mean to more |
s | jump writers in outer jitta it honestly |
s | depends on how you that depends on the |
s | specifics which I don't think the person |
s | qualified to answer that is |
s | here thank you well since nobody's |
s | qualified opinions I I think what you're |
s | looking for like in terms of like you |
s | say balance out it's a it's a |
s | misunderstanding that you can balance a |
s | game like him online |
s | there's no staple equilibrium that |
s | exists that is gonna keep humans engaged |
s | so you have to like balance unbalanced |
s | and and it's more about the movement and |
s | the chains than it is a bringing about |
s | some perfect balance a perfectly |
s | balanced even line would be that boring |
s | we maybe are living in the current to |
s | Paul and Steve online so there isn't |
s | like a solution to the problem but the |
s | the the lack of movement I would say is |
s | there is the current issue there's just |
s | some of these things have just gone too |
s | stagnant and and and and just changing |
s | them even if it's bad changes which I |
s | wouldn't necessarily promote but they're |
s | better than no changes |
s | that's the I would say is the worst |
s | situation right now it's just there |
s | there we are too indecisive because we |
s | are afraid to make mistakes |
s | because it's extremely painful to make |
s | mistakes with this I know I'm aligned |
s | but it's also extremely painful to just |
s | what's the the game crystallize in in |
s | action and it's currently doing i I |
s | can't speak the design subside but I |
s | can't speak to the economic side which |
s | is I think a goal would be to have |
s | social mobility like there's a large |
s | concentration of wealth but if if a |
s | system can be designed by our wonderful |
s | designers that allow social mobility |
s | between the different strata from new |
s | players to experienced players and |
s | what-have-you and creative destruction |
s | in that system as well to bring the |
s | people at the top perhaps down a couple |
s | of notches I think that would be ideal |
s | hi I'm Vangelis from work girl |
s | supers I'm from lowsec and excluding |
s | faction warfare I'm not involved in that |
s | there's a distinct lack of conflict |
s | drivers in low second moment especially |
s | since the Moon mining changes if you |
s | look at our discourse all pings just |
s | about poking a structure or just trying |
s | to bait someone it's all things we go |
s | out of our way to do to get a fight |
s | rather than actually fighting over |
s | something that we want there any |
s | thoughts or plans to introduce something |
s | desirable in lowsec that big groups can |
s | really get stuck in to each other |
s | so her team has several plans to do that |
s | a lot of them are currently on hold for |
s | various reasons but we do recognize that |
s | it's important and you mentioned |
s | excluding factional warfare redoing |
s | factional warfare is pretty high a lot |
s | of people's lists including our creative |
s | director so I think rather than |
s | excluding correctional warfare from the |
s | equation we would be designing it to be |
s | more engaging to everyone and to provide |
s | those goals that you're talking about |
s | find noise from horn Amaya so while on |
s | CEOs asked me today yes what if anything |
s | does CCCP have on the horizon to help |
s | content creators of small groups be |
s | successful or even incentivized to put |
s | little full-time job effort to make it |
s | happy near nave I didn't catch the end |
s | of that sorry so he wants to know what |
s | is on the horizon for the content |
s | creators of small groups to be |
s | successful or even in sensitized to put |
s | in a little full-time job effort to make |
s | it happen in eight so we actually for |
s | this year had a program that we were |
s | working on which unfortunately is on |
s | hold for right now but we're trying to |
s | do a different approaches and tactics to |
s | help surface conduct content creators |
s | especially in there on Twitch or like |
s | fan sites to provide them support to |
s | basically allow them to do the things |
s | that are doing best and help them get |
s | the exposure they need and bring the |
s | content they're doing closer to the |
s | players themselves like I cannot really |
s | give you any specifics right now but we |
s | very much recognize that we can be doing |
s | a better job in terms of supporting our |
s | content creators and this is something |
s | we want to be doing moving forward Pease |
s | passing pleasure seekers I was wondering |
s | if there's metrics for player attention |
s | for players who start immediately start |
s | playing the game with a friend either |
s | that friends new as well or experienced |
s | and if there is that increased retention |
s | some sort of buddy system for new |
s | players that can immediately team up |
s | with someone who's experienced at the |
s | game and possibly go through the various |
s | elements of Eve together and then maybe |
s | eventually join the the court with them |
s | or then help other people yes yes |
s | yes there there is a body system both |
s | for those that are invited into the game |
s | that both invitee and the inviter get |
s | rewards for and they have also been |
s | somebody I don't know how far they've |
s | gotten but there's been a bunch of ideas |
s | of reworking that system because |
s | recruiting a friend or joining with a |
s | friend has such a big impact there have |
s | been sorry this is ridiculous I'm sorry |
s | I know that yeah it just it's just |
s | better we we are focusing on that and |
s | we're always trying to find a the best |
s | way there's also talk about trying to |
s | push people closer or at least |
s | highlighting the community type |
s | initiatives where people join in small |
s | groups or go on open rooms or or things |
s | like that because becoming involved as |
s | somebody who's going to teach you what |
s | to do pull them through those early |
s | stages in the game has a huge impact on |
s | that we also slightly actually saw |
s | dragon member of Darkness and also one |
s | of the CSM members we've the election |
s | now coming and the the people who have |
s | been announced the one thing that we |
s | find our CSM members is we know how |
s | important we are to you the problem is |
s | the player base doesn't know how |
s | important we are to you and I would |
s | prefer that you guys would when it comes |
s | to some of the NDA stuff a little bit |
s | needs to be relaxed but at least when it |
s | comes to the election time now |
s | especially Hilma who sat with us before |
s | and explained how important you are to |
s | our to you I think with the election |
s | coming it would be very important to |
s | have the players know how you guys feel |
s | and how important is to vote even if |
s | it's not for me or any of the other CSA |
s | members that are here but how important |
s | it is to have a healthy Council that |
s | represents everybody because everybody |
s | gets hadn't votes and not just the |
s | blocks of the insinuate |
s | that only blocks vote yeah I totally |
s | agree in terms of us needing to do a |
s | better job in communicating the value |
s | that the system brings to us and also |
s | the impact and all the different either |
s | ideas or things you guys are helping us |
s | with I'm not entirely sure if changing |
s | the NDA is the way to go about it |
s | but there are definitely different ways |
s | we can approach that subject just just |
s | out on the NDA it's not changed in India |
s | I've seen it is important otherwise we |
s | will be able to give you any help but |
s | the question that I have is sometimes |
s | there are people saying like why are we |
s | so heavily bound by it and I'm not |
s | saying we shouldn't be but explaining |
s | what the NDA is to the CSM and it's not |
s | just three letters and what you expect |
s | from in a mob as a an agreement with |
s | both parties why we agree to it and what |
s | comes from it like it's not about |
s | removing it but I don't know if I'm |
s | making sense yeah III think the only |
s | real answer to this is just to own port |
s | this I I think over the pastor of two to |
s | three years the productive relationship |
s | between CCP and the CSM has increased |
s | massively like we've gone up and down |
s | over the whatever 12 years we've had the |
s | current cycle of CSM you actually had a |
s | CSM back in 2003 also where we |
s | hand-picked people which is often |
s | forgotten but since we rebooted it in |
s | its current form it's gone all over the |
s | map but the past two to three years have |
s | been extremely good like extremely good |
s | the past few CSM's have done a |
s | phenomenal job on on building trust with |
s | the developers and vice versa and it's a |
s | it's in a zone apart from some recent |
s | elements which maybe maybe whatever it's |
s | just this but it is so I think maybe are |
s | doing a better job of expressing that |
s | outwards is probably something we have |
s | just assumed happens on its own so I I |
s | think what you're telling us is that we |
s | should do a better job of relating how |
s | productive it has been in the last two |
s | to three years because sometimes it's |
s | been pretty pants |
s | and oft and that became more public when |
s | things are going really well nobody |
s | hears about them but they're going |
s | poorly for sure people hear about it so |
s | I I would just say like the past two to |
s | three years have been really good |
s | brought a lot of value and and we should |
s | just say that more why I I guess there |
s | is no other answer than that so I have |
s | one more question that kind of links to |
s | that because I know the answer to it but |
s | it's obviously something that I want you |
s | to tell the players when we went in |
s | January to the summit it was a shock for |
s | the CSM to see so many new people at the |
s | company it was uplifting it was also |
s | good to see could you explain the |
s | positive aspects of pearl abyss having |
s | on CCP in this year in the future and |
s | how you feel it's been a puzzle had a |
s | positive effect on your company I mean |
s | the the the reason why we partnered with |
s | poly base is that CCP before horse owned |
s | by investors and investors eventually |
s | want to sell their shares either by |
s | going public or selling to strategic |
s | partner and and it does matter who owns |
s | the company it just thoughts I've been a |
s | CEO for what now since 2004 |
s | whatever that is 15 years and it was |
s | tossed matter and it was just the right |
s | time to change the the the ownership of |
s | the company and we went through a whole |
s | process of doing that and we talked to |
s | think about 40 different entities yeah |
s | let me get to it it's a bit of a speech |
s | Siana can talk so somebody has to talk |
s | so and and out of that we picked |
s | holidays and and that because they are |
s | MMO developers personal platinum outs |
s | over us it allows us to do much more |
s | long-term investment like I hope you're |
s | seeing in some of the the things |
s | representing now some of the things |
s | we're doing especially on the tax side |
s | make no sense unless you're building for |
s | decades to come and that is a function |
s | of them really having an appreciation |
s | and understanding of what we do and how |
s | we do it and why it's important and then |
s | also having a mock review on a most like |
s | they are an MMO developer |
s | out of Korea which is frankly the |
s | perfect place of mmo's really if you |
s | look at it from Kingdom of the winds |
s | over to black desert so that just |
s | changed it's our posture much more I |
s | think than people realize |
s | so that allows us to like do more |
s | long-term investment in Thailand to more |
s | long-term investment in pack even if |
s | they don't bear fruit immediately that |
s | it allows us to take a look at some of |
s | the fundamental aspects of human line |
s | which need to be taken a look at to |
s | build the game for decades to come |
s | so real quick I want to take a step back |
s | talking about the CSM I wanted to share |
s | a story you asked us to more accurately |
s | talk about the good aspects of dealing |
s | with CSM and this one does not violate |
s | any NDA's but it's already shipped so |
s | the last time the CSM came to iceland a |
s | week or so before CCP Ryze had come to |
s | me I'm the design director for those of |
s | you don't know and said that he wanted |
s | to do some ship rebalancing and he had a |
s | list and I told him no it does not fit |
s | in our 2019 goals came back a week or so |
s | later and said the CSM wants to talk |
s | about this and they have a lot of the |
s | same ideas that I do and so it's like |
s | the CSM is bringing to us we're honor |
s | bound to sort of pay attention and and |
s | listen to it and give it a fair shake |
s | and we did we had one meeting and then |
s | at the end of that meeting the decision |
s | was made it was like okay now go back |
s | and ask talk about specifics in a second |
s | meeting because we're absolutely doing |
s | this now so the recent shipper balance |
s | is an example of CSM coming to us with |
s | concerns that we we knew were problems |
s | but we're not high on our to-do list and |
s | changing our priorities and creating a |
s | positive effect many many ortega B |
s | Brewers cooperative while I applaud what |
s | the CCP have done for those with vision |
s | impairment you might say is there any |
s | add-on that can be done for those in |
s | that actual gameplay itself because you |
s | also have not just those with color |
s | blindness but also with things such as |
s | photophobia where you have going into a |
s | system you've got bright lights coming |
s | straight at the face rather than have to |
s | wear something like yellow glasses or |
s | red tinted glasses and things like that |
s | and can that be addressed in some some |
s | manner in the game so I can't directly |
s | answer that question because I have not |
s | the art director but I have seen |
s | technology in the past couple of weeks |
s | that we've been working on which could |
s | be used to do that or I should say might |
s | be used to do that I'm not the art |
s | director so I don't know that for sure |
s | and I did talk to you yesterday and I'm |
s | absolutely going to bring your concerns |
s | to the attention of the our director |
s | well apologize for sending all that holo |
s | porn last night no apologies necessary |
s | for last night from anybody hopefully |
s | I'll make mention quickly because it's |
s | not just a art concern some of those |
s | issues are our quality concerns as well |
s | which I know that the color blindness |
s | mode that was implemented was heavily |
s | advocated both by the team that worked |
s | on it and specifically their QA who is |
s | CCP the funk who is tremendous and I |
s | hope he's at home watching but we all |
s | push for improving accessibility for |
s | you've online and whether that's making |
s | tweaks to our settings to enable people |
s | to adjust the things that they see or |
s | the things that their system whether |
s | it's biological or a technological can |
s | handle we we like introducing that stuff |
s | we love opening the game up to people to |
s | anyone and if it's if it's simple if |
s | it's something like putting on a filter |
s | or reducing flashing effects that that |
s | might cause reactions for some people |
s | well certainly I mean it's a it's a no |
s | brainer to take that on board and to |
s | investigate how to apply it and then |
s | to go ahead and move on that when it |
s | becomes more complex we we want to get |
s | it right and that's that's what really |
s | takes up the bulk of time there the the |
s | color blindness mode was not a simple |
s | addition there were a lot of other |
s | changes that needed to take place both |
s | with visual assets and with UI elements |
s | in order to make sure that it works and |
s | we don't like putting something out |
s | there and saying hey here we go and not |
s | having it do the job that it needs to do |
s | so so that's that's one of the key |
s | blockers there is making sure that what |
s | we deliver does what it says on the tin |
s | and provides for the people that it |
s | needs a pipe or tickle so China has a |
s | server serenity is that correct |
s | so there's talk about Chinese community |
s | coming over to tranquility some |
s | wondering if that means anything to you |
s | or it's just business as usual so we |
s | have long wanted to integrate the |
s | communities of serenity and tranquility |
s | together so it could be one community |
s | even if it's two separate servers and I |
s | think the fact that it's taken us a |
s | while to transition in China as I opened |
s | up this situation where the Chinese |
s | players are kind of integrating the |
s | communities for us I think that's a |
s | really positive thing and it seems to be |
s | a very positive thing here in Australia |
s | because the UK shares time zone so |
s | there's more action in your time zone so |
s | I think it's great so I don't saying - |
s | he much about like you're traveling to |
s | China to me like what are the numbers |
s | like compared to tranquility versus |
s | China |
s | so right now we're in a closed beta in |
s | the transition in China so I mean the |
s | Tau is actually quite high but but we |
s | can't really comment on it in any detail |
s | until we go through the license |
s | application which the government has now |
s | started to approve games and and the |
s | even if they're doing it at a slower |
s | rate than before I think we are pretty |
s | high in the stack for lack of a better |
s | word so once we're through that then we |
s | will start to communicate more about |
s | what we will do in China with naty's |
s | which would be different than what we |
s | did in China with density weight not |
s | cross naked oil body builders no |
s | question about the eighty you mentioned |
s | the last eighty when we had to close it |
s | that you're gonna help out with play run |
s | tournaments but would the Thunderdome |
s | being destroyed we had anger management |
s | not banger games don't work we had |
s | trouble with stream fleets showdown |
s | Wednesday it's all gonna be functional |
s | and working I guess so first of all the |
s | tournament tool was never a part of the |
s | support that we're offering for this |
s | year one of the reasons why we've put a |
s | halt on 80 was exactly to reevaluate our |
s | options and the way we can be doing |
s | things the tournament two was one of the |
s | blockers that we you know we can |
s | identify like the state of it it's not |
s | being in a way that it's allowing us to |
s | properly actually run tournaments and |
s | also give it to the to the community |
s | itself we haven't had the concrete |
s | discussions for the next year just yet |
s | as were strongly focusing on the war |
s | tour and everything that is happening |
s | right now but we very much are trying to |
s | help the community organizers to run |
s | their events or tournaments this year |
s | obviously with with the tools and the |
s | resources that we have right now we |
s | there is just one more guy that has a |
s | question so we'll just let him ask his |
s | question and then you guys can finally |
s | get off the stage |
s | sorry Marcy Hillman um just one |
s | commenting a question like you guys have |
s | miss you down the road map but I've |
s | counted 25 pieces right now that on your |
s | roadmap the question I have is jitters a |
s | chokepoint economically I think a lot of |
s | the Wardak behavior and a lot of this |
s | sort of behavior in general seems to |
s | consult it around the Jedi are sort of |
s | perimeter regions and so forth have you |
s | guys given much thought to way you can |
s | displace that so send things out to more |
s | regional areas and sort of break the |
s | back of that thing a little bit more to |
s | disperse content I guess that comes back |
s | to how we were talking earlier or how |
s | him I was talking earlier this is it's |
s | definitely a needful for change things |
s | staying the same way but also we I know |
s | it's now going to be counter to what he |
s | says about the fear of changing certain |
s | things when you have something like |
s | jitta and perimeter to some extent |
s | around it which is basically become what |
s | it is because of your actions and game |
s | if we come along and start poking holes |
s | and things and changing things in ways |
s | that we don't look at all the aspects |
s | that are there it's there's no telling |
s | what what will happen which in some |
s | cases is good and and in other cases is |
s | bad it's just I think in highsec it's a |
s | little bit different because that's |
s | where all of our new players are and so |
s | creating so much chaos in a place then |
s | we can't predict what's going to happen |
s | and you also need to make sure that we |
s | have not necessarily safe but certainly |
s | a space that we can just that newer |
s | players can at least predict what will |
s | happen as they're learning the game it |
s | becomes difficult if we shake up too |
s | much in the safe space I I would very |
s | much agree with Shona because like in |
s | the outer space of human liners to be |
s | wild west and it should be chaotic |
s | dangerous and and all that but the flip |
s | side is where highsec space comes in |
s | it's like it's it's a it's a very human |
s | thing to develop stable structure there |
s | like Rome |
s | Rome it's been Rome for 2,000 years and |
s | and it's there and you can depend on it |
s | and it's part of the legacy so I |
s | actually think how tira has become this |
s | massive traitor which is completely a |
s | merchant nobody picked IRA as being a |
s | traitor and I guess it was you like |
s | before and we try to break that up with |
s | a when we broke up you lie and then we |
s | go Teta so I think we would rather lean |
s | into the fact that Dida has become like |
s | a Nasdaq or a New York Stock Exchange |
s | and I would rather build that up as the |
s | sort of here's worthy the massive secure |
s | large-scale trading occurs and then you |
s | will not have a natural dynamics or |
s | flowing from the outer regions into into |
s | the the main trade market which is again |
s | it's a very human pattern that just |
s | emerges so as much as I would like to |
s | Fox it up in the outer regions I would |
s | like to build up high sex base even more |
s | to lean into what you guys are built in |
s | terms of infrastructure there but if you |
s | were to consolidate in terms of high |
s | tech in terms of new players in that |
s | area to sort of cultivate and nurture |
s | and sort of create a bit of an |
s | incubation system going but the history |
s | and that the behavior today is that's |
s | where most of these people feed on that |
s | behavior to so they will do the negative |
s | it's not just the positive so things |
s | like ganking knowing full well the |
s | Concord has delays or has cured delays |
s | that get to it so it kind of creates |
s | this feeding behavior as well as much as |
s | a positive and a negative so when that |
s | keep going then that would be counter to |
s | ative to the whole life cycle growth of |
s | a new player yeah and I guess that then |
s | becomes more of a discussion about |
s | what's the evolution of the city as city |
s | becomes as everybody floods in and grows |
s | and everybody becomes much in class and |
s | starts prosper and get more but then the |
s | the wealth inequality starts to seep in |
s | and you get your you get your slums yeah |
s | sorry I'm not trying to offend anybody |
s | you might |
s | but but you you get that that stage |
s | where the the different types of |
s | behaviour and people will feed on other |
s | people and and therefore you added a |
s | different type of ecosystem within that |
s | space and so letting that keep its own |
s | evolution to see where that would |
s | progress to because as we said we didn't |
s | make Teeter you heisted and how that |
s | evolves and what happens when those that |
s | live here revolt or those I don't know |
s | it's it's what happens if that city is |
s | allowed to become a metropolis or or |
s | take over an even larger area of space |
s | it's I think it's one of the stories of |
s | Eve that you guys keep creating that |
s | keeps going on and on and jitta is one |
s | of those evolving stories and so letting |
s | it do its own thing is probably her just |
s | have to see where it goes all right |
s | thank you very much everybody for your |
s | questions and could I say one more thing |
s | sorry no so pretty please so on your |
s | last point about safety of new players |
s | the problem is not that jitta is not |
s | safe for new players or that any system |
s | is not safe for new players the problem |
s | is that we have systems to message how |
s | safe a system is right now if you go to |
s | the right place at the right time you |
s | can look and you can see how many people |
s | were killed in the last hour in any |
s | system in EVE the problem is that we |
s | don't message that well to new players |
s | so a lot of these problems are are are |
s | solvable and need to be solved but not |
s | necessarily in the most direct |
s | traditional way that we've solved them |
s | in the past thank you very much to |
s | everybody who asked questions and to our |
s | lovely panel on the stage if your |
s | question wasn't answered there will be a |
s | 2 a.m. a in the roundtable room with CCP |
s | mimic |
s | the the the shirts have arrived so as |
s | you leave today you can go and collect |
s | your shirts we've back here tomorrow at |
s | 11 a.m. a late staff everybody who has a |
s | hangover and we'll see you guys then |
s | thanks very much have a great night |
s | [Laughter] |
