10s going into this expansion we really wanted to use the opportunity to advance some of
15s the story lines that are in new Eden
18s Obviously new Eden has been around for 20 years and there are multiple faction multiple
23s stories some have progress some have like stayed stagnant for a while
27s the Jovian are one of those holy Grails that we have touched really for almost 20 years
33s and we really wanted to sort of pick up that story line again and reveal a little bit more
38s so when we were thinking about coming up with a pirate Hideout if you will
43s we sort of decided that it would be a very cool idea to
48s make this first revelation, Jove Revelation and be tied with that opportunity as well
56s so we came up with Zarzakh which is sort of a hub an ancient Jovian transport hub
62s it has Jovian relics Jovian station and it provides a very cool background
69s for the Pirates and also provides us with a very cool starting point in continuing with
75s the Jove story
77s our main goals when looking at Zarzakh was to create something visually stunning
84s but also something not seen before
86s EVE is usually quite dark so we want wanted to contrast that now with something different
94s my main part in when working in a project like this is working with the all the artists
100s on the idea stage
101s but then giving artists as much autonomy as possible to run with their ideas
108s and then it's more just about kind of nudging it in the right direction
115s and then in the end when all pieces kind of start to come together is it's a lot of tweaking
122s making things um come together and and fit fit nicely as a whole package
127s we also wanted to incorporate our new volumetric Cloud technology into the space
134s yeah and create something visually stunning to explore
136s we did a lot of effort to make it feel like a pirate den and we wanted to really try to
142s capture this pirate feel in zarzakh while at the same time it's Jovian it's the space
149s is totally different
150s it has the the atmosphere is totally different it has these stat zones it has this limited
156s visibility and a lot of it hasn't been discovered yet it's very mysterious but once you dock
162s into
163s the Fulcrum you will see that you're inside this massive Jovian station and the Pirates
169s have really just occupied a small part of it
172s the way that we approached the soundtrack of Zarzakh is we wanted a
178s chaotic Jovian Darkness to it which for the music is reminiscent of the structure in Wormhole
186s space music
187s but with its own Jovian sound pallet
190s and we were aiming at the gray Zone area between Sound and Music so the music doesn't have
197s themes or pulse or Rhythm or even chord progressions it's more of a flowing always evolving texture
205s that maintains a red threat in the Zarzakh sound
208s but it's never repeating itself in exactly the same way
211s for the transition to the death zone
216s so coming from the safe Zone and transitioning flying out into the death zone
222s we wanted to do something special
227s something that introduces a sense of change but which is not explicitly obvious
238s so we wanted it to feel like you enter into to a different very foreign world that is
242s dangerous and harmful
245s and the way the music does this is that it filters out part of the safe Zone music
253s and introduces new layers that are hazardous in character
258s and it's made in a way that you're not supposed to really notice it
263s it merges with the sound design and it merges with the general feel of Zarzakh
269s so I actually hope you don't notice it but I also hope that you sense the feeling of
278s Zarzakh
279s that it's a part of giving rise to as you are in that system
283s the deathless and the deathless circle is a bit of a mystery
287s it's clear that they arrived in Zarzakh sometime before anyone else did
294s and the understanding is that they moved in
298s managed to get basic understanding and control of the system
301s through the Fulcrum like operating the gates
303s its the deathless that control the gates he can open and close them he basically controls
308s the system
309s the deathless has decided to invite the Angels and the Guristas
314s and used Zarzakh as a pirate Haven
318s what the deathless gets out of it is access to resources to materials
323s enable more features and functionality of Zarzakh if you will
328s how much more deathless knows about Zarzakh how many more locations he has discovered
333s is as of yet unknown but going forward with the deathless
338s that is something that we really want to do
341s and we really want to do that in a ingame narrative way
345s where you the players participate
348s and that is sort of what we have thought of with the deathless and Zarzakh in general
353s as a starting point for something more
356s what I'm happiest with Zarzakh
359s is seeing the environment come together with all the Jove structures that have been built
366s it's a beautiful space to fly around and explore
369s seeing the art team collaborate with other teams
373s in a creative storm everyone pitching in ideas
378s when we get to that kind of work environment then the best results happen
385s for the past few days in leading up to the expansion
387s you will be able to assist the Pirates in preparing for their insurgencies
392s they are asking you to go out there into The Drifter hives
399s collecting materials bring it back to Zarzakh
402s and they are using those materials to get the fulcrum more operational
406s and building the shipcaster
409s you the player are of course rewarded by the Pirates
413s by getting early access to the Destroyers
416s at the expansions the insurgencies will start
419s but also every once in a while something will happen in Zarzakh itself
423s where you will be able to assist the Pirates or not
428s in achieving their goals
430s and bringing the fulcrum to his full potential
433s and discovering things and going further
