Given how much grief I share about Mediatonic on this sub, it's rare for me to say anything positive about them - but the real shame is that, in concept, these maps are well designed and fun. Having to press buttons to draw a picture on a grid? That's interesting, way more engaging and skillful than something like Sum Fruit, and something a lot of us have experienced in Mario Party (or at least similar). A Tip Toe race, where rather than doing the huddle and break strat from regular Tip Toe you get to show off your own pathfinding skills? That's actually quite good.
The issue, of course, is that they've been designed as squad games. For most players, when your skill level is a lot higher than the average skill level of the squad, your experience is less fun (because it feels like you're being dragged down or forced to carry). The bigger the gulf, the worse the experience. Because these games are squad based, I can imagine there are only two sets of people that they might be ideal for: people whose skill level is generally below or equivalent to the average skill level of the average squad (so they're not usually being dragged down), and preforms where you should be able to trust the skill level of your teammates.
That's the real shame. I would freaking love to do these maps in a 1v1(v1v1v1 etc) environment, but as it stands now I have very mixed feelings when they come up.
