I'd love to try that! The main headache is that one player quitting puts us in a weird place where we'll have on player on their own each round for the end of the tournament, right down to the final round. There's not much we can do about that and it would feel pretty broken to be that player I think- maybe still something we could do though.

Your comment made me question it again :D Turns out it sort of 'corrects itself' but can do weird things if 2+ people quit (re-breaking when we reach 3 players remaining, for example). When we get a bit of time we'll take another look!
