the fact that they didn't have this before lays bare something about gamedev that I think gamers tend not to get:
things that seem obvious to players when they have the game in their hands and the benefit of hindsight, are really easy to miss in the chaos of actual development
though I feel like a lot of folks are going to see this and instead go "wow they didn't even think of this before, what idiots, lazy devs lmao"
