I loved this game. Everything about it. The story is great. Customization is fantastic. The combat perfectly captures the power of a Jedi, while maintaining a level of challenge. Exploring is extremely satisfying and entertaining, the sound design is impressive and the game’s art takes my breath away.
When all of that works properly.
To put it bluntly, this game is surprisingly unpolished.
I encountered very many bugs and glitches throughout the entirety of my play-through that I simply had no control over.
-My game would freeze and then crash, forcing me to lose progress. -The frame rate of my game was always changing, and dropping, both in cutscenes and out, ruining the fluidity of the game -I fell through the floor more times than I can count because the world didn’t load in properly. -When models did load, the textures often looked quite bad for several seconds before loading as intended. -At least 25% of the cutscenes were ruined by models that wouldn’t load, animations that didn’t play, like mouths moving ahead of the audio, or not at all. (Including the ending scenes, which absolutely sucked.) -Camera angles were cut off by the environment, making combat in tight spaces very rough. -Customization is awesome, but again it took several seconds for them to properly load.
And because someone will ask, I am playing on a standard Xbox one. No, it isn’t an Xbox one X, or a PS4 pro, or a top of the line gaming PC. But, I believe that if a game is released on a platform, it should run on that platform without me needing to upgrade which platform I play on.
I’m disappointed that I had to play it in such a condition, and perhaps I’m just unlucky, but from my point of view this game could have definitely used more time in development to iron out all the issues.
This being said, a genuine thank you to Respawn for making an incredible Star Wars game, I wish that I had gotten to experience it the way they intended it to be.
