We need to talk about Project Paradise and the Arktos Pharma Biome Labs. They’re currently being largely ignored by players and that’s a crying shame. The area is beautifully designed, one of the best areas in the game. The event itself (under the optimal conditions) is challenging, fun and has interesting rewards. Additionally, the event often yields legendary enemies in addition to the 3* Legendary Alpha boss at the end.

So why isn’t anyone playing it? Because it is broken, and is perceived as being even more broken than it is. It also lacks a server wide notification and requires player interaction to even begin.

Here are the things I think need to happen to get players interested in this event—which should be a huge draw for content starved high level players.

  1. Fix the spawn rates. Each biome should spawn enough food to get to tier 3 every single time. They currently don’t do that. It's very common to visit a biome and not even get enough spawns to get to tier 1. They’re entirely unpredictable in a way that can only be attributed to bugs. NOTE: This does not mean that the event should be able to be easily completed solo. Simply that it should be possible to achieve the highest tier in each biome.
  2. Add a server-wide notification for the event.
  3. Ensure that all bugs that lead to crashing in the event or the elevator are 100% fixed and publicize that loudly. Most of these bugs are already fixed, but everyone assumes that they’re not.
  4. Extend the time to fill feeding troughs from 6 to 10 minutes. This will both alleviate some pressure on spawn times and allow players a bit of breathing room if they need to stash or change some gear before traveling to the event.
  5. Change the initiation process for the experiment. Currently players have up to 30 minutes to initiate it after entering the labs. This causes confusion because no other events work like that. Set the experiment to begin automatically 3-5 minutes after a player first enters the area. Send the server notification at the start of that warm up period. It worked for the Meat Cook, it can work for this.
  6. Add Legendary versions of the Bear Arm to the rewards pool or give it some unique effects. It’s a cool weapon for unarmed builds, but it's not Legendary, so nobody cares about it.
  7. Allow the event to trigger itself even if no players have entered the area, maybe once per hour. A lot of players don’t know that to get the event to happen they have to actually go to the basement at Arktos. Many are just sitting around waiting for events to happen that never do, including this one.

/u/ladydevann can we get a comment on why this one doesn’t have the server alert? I feel at this point it must be a decision and not an over-site, and so it be cool to know

With the upcoming events system overhaul, we are working on giving this a server-wide alert. I don't want to say what will happen for sure as it is still being worked on, but it is on the dev radar for that.

Question : is that also when the removal of cost to travel to events is also occurring?

Yup! When the events systems update lands that's when the cap cost gets removed.
