[2019] Has anyone experienced Legendary robots blowing up immediately after the last update?

Idk if its just a few unlucky times, but ive been blown up my legendary robot explosions twice now, and both times it happened instantly after killing them. It also happened to friend of mine while he was playing on his own, so its not just my game.

I run a bloodied melee build and it seems to happen when they get 1 shotted. It happened with a level 30 liberator and a 52 colonel gutsy. Its making awol armaments seem pointless because im worried the boss's body will just get thrown away in the blast and ill get vaporized.

I havent run into enough legendary robots to test if it ALWAYS happens or not, anyone else that can confirm? All 3 instances were during events, liberator horde, and 2 awol armaments.
