Energy weapons are so bad because of the fact that they don't benefit from really anything... The gauss rifle benefits from the perception perks to increase non automatic rifle damage, but none of the other laser weapons apparently do as far as I can tell.

I would also really like to see better weapons... So far I've only been able to find a gauss rifle, the radium rifle (which apparently count as bullets or ballistic so it's not even an energy weapon), and laser rifle or laser pistol. There are apparently no plasma weapons of any kind like there were in previous Fallout games. No plasma pistol/rifle, no gamma gun, etc.

In Fallout New Vegas, they had amazing weapons like the laser RCW, essentially just a submachine gun that fires lasers. They also have a handmade Tesla Rifle! Look here! all you have to do is literally copy this and put it in the game. The design work is already done for you!

As others have mentioned, we are planning a large balance patch the will address durability and utility of Energy Weapons. We have also updated our Known Issues list to reflect this is coming.
