I think the most confusing part about this is that there was a lot of wood out here to collect from fallen logs and the like. And the geometry all has collision, up until the point where you reach the edge of the 'paper', at which point you start slowly sinking into the ground.
Same thing happens if you head towards the western edge of the map - I haven't gone south or east yet, but I have no reason to believe it'd be any different. Seems like the "you can't go this way" barriers are just... gone.
