[2019] Gatling laser is behaving worse than before the "fix"

Prior to fixing, we had the whole 12/12 - if for example you had 12 fusion cores, your loaded ammo in the gatling laser would be 12. Same for gatling plasma. You'd shoot that, reload, and not lose the core (at least I never experienced that, though people have said they did).

Now we have this (sorry for the audio desync). I use up the core, reload. Spin it up, only to fire once, then spin it up again only for my ammo count to randomly drop to zero. Reload again, fire once - again - even though I'm holding down the button. I have to spin in up again to shoot. This sometimes repeats if I stop continuously firing, but not always.

I speculate the ammo goes to zero because the loaded core isn't actually as full as the indicator would have me believe. But more than that, I'm annoyed at how much time I lose just reloading, spinning up and then firing once. What is this even?
