Yes, destroying them should reduce the cost + give you resources back.

In a future update, you will be able to plant and farm berry bushes, but for now the best thing to do is either use Druid Scrolls on the grass biome, gamble your way with Slot Machines or build Markets and try to buy a bunch that way!
