To clarify: The original raid team members did move into new positions on various teams (management, lead, LW, or expac). Some are still at the studio but a few have moved on to other opportunities. This is pretty normal industry stuff.
GW2 has a vibrant community and we're always looking at ways to keep the game engaging for people. Raids, like Living World, fractals, etc. are constantly being evaluated. Right now we're focused on finishing the Icebrood Saga and the expansion (among other things) but please continue sharing your ideas and letting us know the kinds of things you want in the game. I can't guarantee a particular outcome but it's important that we know your thoughts as they help us weigh decisions. Thanks.
I'm giving this comment it's own post as this is the first time since February a dev has even used the word "raid" and many of us are propably asking what is going to happen to their favorite game mode. The answer is nothing.
ArenaNet's reason for abandoning raids is the lack of playerbase. Had they added difficulty settings they could have attracted players of every skill level. Those who want to see the story or just the fight, those who want a nice encounter and those who want a challange. Also why are cm rewards a once in a life time thing? The encounters themselves are only doable once a week unless someone opens the wing for you. Difficulty settings, progressing in them and repeatability are already in the game, in Fractals. Why not apply it to raids as well? Also promoting raids might have helped a bit. When was the last time they tweeted about raids? Do people outside of gw2 know that the game has raids?
Either way. Raids for me were the best part of the game. Great maps, voice acting, boss designs, story, unique combat experiences, many fun builds to play. Sad to see it go.
