The limited time title obtained from doing a meta achievement on the recently added PvP map, Revenge of the Capricorn, has become considerably more difficult to obtain for anyone who didn't complete it prior to the September patch.
To earn the achievement you need to do a handful of things (defend a point, capture a point, kill players, win matches etc) on the Capricorn map before the end of PvP Season 3 in an unranked match (it's not available in ranked or hotjoin). The September patch made it much hard to get a match on the required map.
Obviously this achievement required actually being able to play on the map during this time frame. This wasn't much of a problem when it was a guarantee option and most players voted for it (although somtimes people didn't and this often led to one or more people sitting afk out of spite). With the recent patch, the Capricorn map is no longer pinned so it now competes for a spot in the voting with the other possible maps. In addition to this, the new map is pinned and wins the vote the majority of the time, essentially making Capricron a very difficult map to access.
Right now the Capricorn title is set to go away at the end of PvP League Season 3 - if you have not completed the objectives before then, it will forever be incomplete for you. We were told this a while back, but what many people didn't know is that the conditions for accessing the Capricorn map would be dramatically altered by the introduction of the new map and the new achievement.
Yes players had time to complete this before now and many did. Many did not with the assurance from ArenaNet that they had until the October 3rd deadline to finish their achievement, but the introduction of the new map, the removal of the Capricorn map from the guaranteed option and the voting system favouring the new hot thing, the September 20th patch functions as a soft deadline for most players because it has become very difficult and in most cases impossible to even access an unranked Capricorn game. Players who relied on the assurance that they could work on the achievement until the October 3rd deadline are being screwed over by the recent changes and additions to PvP.
There are a few options for ArenaNet to help the situation before the October 3rd deadline passes:
- Make the title permanently available.
- Allow players to exclusively queue for the Capricorn map similar to how we could queue for Stronghold (this will also help with the trend of doing this for current and future achievements of this nature and avoid issues of achievement hunters afking because they rolled a map they didn't want to play).
- Return the queue to guarantee Capricorn as an option until after the October 3rd deadline.
- Hold either a weekend or week long event where all players queing in unranked are guaranteed Capricorn as one of their maps.
In future I suggest it is unwise for ArenaNet to have competing maps overlap with limited time achievements (personally I think you should be able to queue exclusive for these maps during this window). For now I hope ArenaNet can take some action to allow players who relied on the final two weeks of League Season 3 to complete their window. Some of us made decisions regarding the achievement only to find the goal posts have moved on us during the final two weeks. It would be nice if something could be done to make accessing the map easier, achievements should be about completing the content, not getting lucky enough to access it in the first place.
