I am absolutely fascinated with the lore of the raid bosses in GW2. By curiousity, I realized the depth of the characters in them, and all I could say was DAMN! I think the developers of the story as well as the artists did a fantastic job in the creation of the characters. When I realized the history behind the Muursat and the White Mantle it was a pretty explosive realization as to their impact on Tyria as a whole. Reading about Xera, the White Mantle and everything regarding Caudecus made a lot of sense afterwards. Even reading about Dhumm was amazing.

I find that as a player from my perspective if were speaking about the role play in all of this, I prefer to consider myself as NOT the commander. The reason is because I feel that the Commander feels too much of a hero that has too much importance and pretty much the center of everything that happens in Tyria. I prefer to look at my character as that unseen Special Forces Operator that works on the sidelines to help save the planet from unforeseen annihilation, it feels like that character has more of a unique role that has a thankless job. Sure the commander is thankless and seeks not to be acknowledged, but the Commander is pretty much more of a celebrity and politician than a hidden figure. At this point if the commander yawns the whole world knows about it.

I'm done, for that reason, as seeing myself as the Commander, and instead looking at everything more of being the adventurer. The adventurer doesn't need celebration, and doesn't seek it, which is why the adventurer instead chooses to bury the remains of Saul D'Alessio after raiding the Bastion of the Penitent, in secret within his homeland in Kryta, than to fight for reconciliation for him.

The commander is someone with too much power with Aurene at its side. And honestly, it feels weird that NPCs have to be the people who party up with the player in the stories. I feel that NPCs should give the players a direction and mold the story as a consequence of the player's actions, but the player shouldn't have to be alone, in this case the commander. But I guess we can just be the fill-in, as the world will see the Commander, as well, the Commander will never see the adventurer. In other words the Commander to me, is simply an NPC that you play as for story purposes. Like you read about him/her in the newspaper but nobody has actually seen what the Commander looks like.
