[2020] Why does 343 treat iconic designs as a liability rather than an asset?

For newcomers to the franchise, they won't care one way or the other. But for longtime fans, we appreciate the unique visual identity of Halo, from its shotgun to its magnum. By now you've probably heard that these two weapons won't be making a return in Halo Infinite. What is with the insistence to replace these classic Halo weapons with objectively more generic designs? Isn't there a way to modernize the look of these weapons without doing away with its soul completely?

I wish 343 would realize that iconic designs are its STRENGTH and something to be PROMOTED. It seems like they're almost embarrassed to use Bungie's old designs, save for the assault rifle (which is seemingly superseded by the more powerful VK78 Commando).
