So by talking to various people on Reddit, Twitter and Halo Waypoint Forums being affected by the same issue, it seems like we were able to finally figure out why those people who

  • opted into Halo Insider before September 13
  • verified their email
  • have opted into communications
  • have selected the PC platform
  • attached a DxDiag file
  • are meeting the minimum specs for the build
  • and especially did not receive the initial 'Welcome to Halo Infinite - Congratulations!' Email

were not invited and will not be invited for the this weekends Flight and next weekends Flight, although you may also were just recently invited to the MCC Season 8 Flight and/ or to the first Halo Infinite Flight, but not the second one.

So what is the problem and how did we figure it out?

First of all, on September 21, Community Director at 343 Industries Brian Jarrard, also known as 'ske7ch', tweetet:

"Halo Insiders who don’t have a verified email, haven’t opted in to comms, haven’t selected a platform, or only selected PC but didn’t attach a dxdiag and/or don’t meet min spec for the build - won’t receive an email. (3/4)" (twitter.com/ske7ch/status/1440159093046448128)

So you apparently did everything right, right?

Another indication for the root of the problem emerged from the tweet on September 24, by Community Manager at 343 Industries John Junyszek, also known as 'Unyshek'. Here, Unyshek was addressing those people, who did opt into console and PC flighting, but were only invited to Xbox and not PC:

"*Invited to only Xbox*

- Verified Halo Insider email

- Opted-in for email communication

- Opted-in to Xbox flighting

- Not opted-in for PC flighting OR opted-in to PC flighting, but DxDiag did not meet the flight’s min spec (meeting min spec would move you to the "Both" category)" (twitter.com/Unyshek/status/1441288878057353222)

The root of the issue

What we do not have in our hands here is, that the requirement of meeting minimum specs is being checked by 343's automatic detection system. In this tweets responses, you can see many people saying they were only invited to Xbox, although meeting the minimum required specs for this Flight build and opted in for both PC and Xbox flighting. So since they were invited to Xbox, but not PC, they did everything right, but are not meeting the required specs for the PC build. It seems like many of these people also own a 3080 Ti.

So ultimately, you were not invited since 343's automatic detection system for meeting the minimum required specs for this flight has flagged your profile to not meet the minimum requirements. Thus following the first tweet by 'ske7ch' above, you also did not receive the initial 'Welcome to Halo Infinite - Congratulations!' email.

So why were you invited to the first Flight and/ or the MCC Season 8 Flight, although not changing my DxDiag file? Well it seems like that 343 just recently did changes to the automatic detection system or the system bugged out this time.

How do we fix this issue?

We need to let 343 know that their detection system is malfunctioning and ask them to manually look into your profile and check if there is a bug in the system.

To do so please write a Support Ticket http://aka.ms/HaloSupportInsider saying that you were not invited, although meeting the minimum required specifications and also tweet to Community Manager at 343 Industries John Junyszek and Community Director at 343 Industries Brian Jarrard, saying that you have been wrongfully flagged by the system to not meet the required specs.

Also please comment below, if you are affected by this problem. Please add your Gamertag so if 343 read this thread, they can take action to invite you to the flight. Please also comment your sepcs.

An issue was identified where 3080 and similar cards did not get recognized correctly. Looks like that's less than 2,000 people who fall into that category. Updated invites/keys should be going out to these folks who should've been included today (this work is underway now).

There are several thousand Insiders with 900-series GPUs who were invited last time but really shouldn't have been given the known issues and level of support in the game. For this preview, the call was made that this build doesn't officially support those cards, which means those folks did not get invited.

Additionally, we do have reports of a subset of Insiders who have reported that their profile was inexplicably wiped/reset. This is a new issue still being investigated with no obvious root cause and is not expected to be resolved during this preview.

There are admittedly a variety of less than ideal aspects to this entire flow and we recognize that. Unfortunately, tinkering with the Insider process has had to take a backseat to the flight/game development priorities and the upcoming launch of the new site (which itself will alleviate some pains).

I 100% empathize and understand how disappointing and frustrating it is for folks who expected to get an invite but didn't. The reality is we're talking about upwards of 1 million accounts/invites for a limited time preview in the midst of actively closing out a game that's launching in a few months. We are just not able to manually check and troubleshoot everyone's access issues. I'm sorry for that.

Next weekend we are widening the funnel and opening things up more. Steam and Xbox players will have an opportunity to participate without going through the Halo Insider process. I'm not sure at what scale yet - it will really depend how well things go this weekend and if we're hitting our concurrency targets. Next weekend we need to push it even harder, so we'll be using data from this weekend to identify how we're trending and then back into the totals we need. So it'll let more people in but there will be a cap.

Hopefully this is somewhat helpful context though I realize it's a small consolation for folks who just want to play. We greatly appreciate the passion and support and I'm sorry some Insiders won't get the opportunity to participate this weekend.

EDIT: I'm told the invites for folks who were originally valid and signed up in time with 3080s have been sent out. Check your Waypoint messages/Insider profile if you fall into this category!

EDIT #2: Evidently we may also have an issue where folks on gaming laptops are not having the right GPU recognized, which would account for another group of Insiders not getting invited but likely should have. We're still gathering some info and looking into this.

EDIT #3: Some of the new replacement Steam keys are evidently also being reported as invalid. 3rd time's a charm, I hope. If this is you, stand by, you should be getting another one.

And re: the laptop GPU issue - it does sound like the system was only recognizing the integrated GPU, not dedicated. Unfortunately this is not trivial to resolve and it doesn't sound like it's going to be realistic to address for this flight. Sorry if you're one of these Insiders and weren't able to get in this weekend - hopefully the alternate paths next weekend help out.

EDIT #4! Still going here - have some really great news to share - some wizards on the team were able to get this sorted out and invites / keys for laptop players who meet the min spec (and were already signed up by the cut-off) are being added! This is rolling out now, so if you think you are in this group, be sure to keep an eye on your Waypoint messages and Insider profile for your Steam key. Thank you for hanging in there as we've worked through these hurdles. Hope to see you in game soon!

This is EXACTLY the kind of response we were looking for. Porblems will always occour in beta builds, and obviously fixing the game ITSELF is a priority. Just giving your fans the feeling that their voice is heard, and that they're NOT forgotten by any means, is very important.

Please keep in mind we have thousands of people tweeting at us, tens of thousands of support tickets pouring in and we're just a few people doing the best we can. Everyone cares, we can just only do so much, so fast.
I'm very glad the team was able to sort out the 3080 card issues and steps are underway right now to remedy that along with the invalid steam keys - combined that's a decent chunk of players and trust me, we want all of them in this flight because that group alone could be the difference between us hitting our concurrency goals or not!

Here's a question: last flight I had a GTX 970, in between flights I upgraded to a RTX 3070 Ti. I forgot to update my dxdiag file on waypoint. Do I not get into the flight now that I've updated it? If not, no biggie, that's on me. Just wondering what to expect.

If you had the updated DXDIAG with your 3070 in your profile before the query was run, which I believe was 9/12, then you should get picked up in the batch today.
If you updated it after that cut-off, we won't be able to get you in this weekend but hopefully you'll be able to slip in next week via the expanded options I mentioned above.

Are you also aware of those with laptops that have integrated graphics cards aren't getting invites? I have a Razer Blade 15 with an rtx 2060 and I haven't been invited for either flights. Did the dxdiag well before 9/12.

Edit: just saw the #2 edit. Thanks for addressing, ske7ch. Appreciate the hard work your team is putting into resolving these issues.

Just updated my main post up there but yes, digging into this more - it does indeed look like an issue where only the integrated GPU is detected, not the dedicated GPU. Unfortunately I'm told this is not a trivial issue to resolve and as such, very unlikely we can address for this flight. Wish I had better news, very sorry for that.
