s | Greetings, and well met. |
---|---|
s | My name is Giovanni Scarpati. |
s | I'm a Designer on the Hearthstone Team. |
s | You've been battling |
s | in the magic city of Dalaran for some time now, |
s | whether dabbling with the dastardly, delinquent deeds of the League of Evil, |
s | or protecting the proud patrons and people |
s | of this prestidigitageous population |
s | as a Defender of Dalaran. |
s | But what exactly is the League of Evil up to? |
s | You may ask, "Is Togwaggle robbing the bank of goods and precious artifacts?" |
s | Is Hagatha unleashing the denizens of The Violet Hold to distract the guards? |
s | Is Dr. Boom looking to strap rockets on the bottom of the floating city |
s | and go for a joyride? |
s | To which I say, |
s | those are some well-educated guesses. |
s | The League of Evil is up to no good. |
s | All your guesses are correct. |
s | They'll be ransacking, reassembling and robbing in... |
s | The Dalaran Heist. |
s | So, what is it? |
s | The Dalaran Heist follows the same core format |
s | as the Dungeon Run and Monster Hunt, |
s | but is loaded with new features and content. |
s | This time, you'll be taking to the streets |
s | as one of 9 henchmen |
s | in the League of Evil, |
s | challenging a series of proud Defenders of Dalaran |
s | who stand in the way of you and your job. |
s | In this solo adventure, |
s | it all starts with chapters in a book. |
s | Each chapter, a different location with a different beat of the story. |
s | When we said we wanted to tell the story of Rise of Shadows, |
s | the UI and Art Team took us seriously. |
s | Each chapter holds some unique bosses, |
s | as well as a unique rule that's present throughout the course of the run. |
s | For example, The Violet Hold has imprisoned minions |
s | that join later in the fight, |
s | while the sewers swap the attack and health of all minions. |
s | Drafting feels very different |
s | when that Kalecgos you're about to pick will be a 10-mana 12/4. |
s | As a henchman in the League of Evil, |
s | you'll gain access to a loadout system to customize your start. |
s | These Hero Powers and decks will be locked at first, |
s | but can be unlocked by completing various mini quests, like Draw 100 Cards |
s | or Freeze 30 Minions. |
s | This was one of the most requested features, |
s | and the first one we worked on. |
s | We loved the idea of unique Hero Powers like those in the Monster Hunt, |
s | but wanted them to feel like alternative ways to play |
s | as opposed to something that defined our new henchmen. |
s | Being evil means being flexible, after all. |
s | For example, Rakanishu the mage will have Burning Wit and Frostburn |
s | as alternative Hero Powers, |
s | with both drawing from existing mage spell effects. |
s | Burning Wit reduces the cost of a card in your hand, |
s | while Frostburn freezes a character, |
s | or deals 2 damage if it's already frozen. |
s | Job's done! |
s | You'll also be able to unlock new starting decks. |
s | Each has its own combination of themes |
s | and helps you start out in a different direction. |
s | But it's still up to you to adapt with your choices. |
s | Every class also has a random deck, |
s | which has been a favorite among many roguelike players on our team. |
s | And don't worry, we make sure you start out with a decent curve. |
s | Oh, and as a side note, |
s | we'll be tracking your victories on all of these - |
s | per hero, per location, per Hero Power, and per deck. |
s | That's a lot of tracking. |
s | The Dalaran Heist also marks the introduction |
s | of some new deck-building features, in the form of non-combat encounters. |
s | As you play through the solo adventure, |
s | you'll be able to take breaks to visit various taverns in Dalaran. |
s | In here, you'll be given a random assortment of special cards |
s | that allow you to manipulate cards in your deck for the rest of the run. |
s | Rakanishu! |
s | The scamp from the lamp. You always brighten my day. |
s | Started with a Murloc Tidehunter in your deck? |
s | Dismiss him. Get him out of here. |
s | See a juicy-looking Ragnaros on the other side of the table? |
s | Recruit him to join the side of evil. |
s | Thankfully, tavern keepers in Dalaran don't mind where the coin's coming from. |
s | It's just good business. |
s | Deck manipulation was another highly requested feature |
s | that we're happy to bring in. |
s | The number of outrageous stories |
s | it's already generating amongst the team is just awesome, |
s | and I can't wait to see what you come up with. |
s | Once you've unlocked every chapter, |
s | you'll gain access to a new mode we're calling Anomaly Mode. |
s | This mode is for players who want to add a little extra spice to their gameplay |
s | in the form of a random ruleset, |
s | ranging from tame-but-odd to almost Tavern Brawly. |
s | The rules swap after each run, |
s | so if you see an Anomaly that isn't your playstyle, |
s | you can check in again next run. |
s | For example, the Anomaly Wild Magic |
s | causes spells for both players to cast an additional time at a random target. |
s | The Anomaly Glittering has both players gaining treasures |
s | when they play high-cost cards. |
s | You can't get away! |
s | You're mine! |
s | We've also brought back two familiar difficulty modes - Normal and Heroic. |
s | Heroic will be available after completing the corresponding chapter on Normal. |
s | You should expect it to be pretty rough. |
s | The first chapter will be available for free with the launch of The Dalaran Heist. |
s | In it, you'll be taking on the fiery role of Rakanishu, |
s | the mischievous fire elemental who lives in King Togwaggle's lantern, |
s | as you work your way into the banks of Dalaran |
s | to plunder precious gold and artifacts. |
s | Once you've experienced the vain glory of villainy, |
s | chapter 2 of this adventure, The Violet Hold, |
s | is available for purchase right away. |
s | The next 3 chapters will be released over the following weeks. |
s | It's almost showtime for the Arch-Villain Rafaam |
s | and his band of irredeemable rapscallions, |
s | so I'm going to close the book on the League of Evil for now. |
s | The Dalaran Heist needs all the help it can get, starting next week. |
