[2019] Battlegrounds timer

I don't understand the timer in this mode. I get 35 seconds to tier up on turn 2, 90 seconds to do nothing on turn 10, and 35 seconds for the final round. I need to figure out economy, selling or keeping, and placement in barely over half a minute. I feel like the minimum turn timer for 1 vs 1 in battlegrounds should be 60 seconds.
The other guy has triple lightfang, for the last five turns and I'm trying to Brann my ass off and trying to figure out where the Divine Shields anld taunts are. Time disadvantage is very real.
