This is why some players tweak doctrines and tank design to optimize in other ways. There is a point where too much breakthrough isn't helping as much as you might think. If your breakthrough is consistently twice as high as the sum total of incoming fire, the excess isn't helping.

Then again, it is sometimes difficult to predict how much incoming fire they are going to take while on the attack. And you can't control how focus fire the enemy is. So, I tend to err on the side of extra breakthrough just to make sure a lone panzer division that got separated from her friends can still attack without taking that much damage.

(Are panzer divisions like ships and referred to as female? I can't remember.)
