@brodiegames imo if you score high enough across these 3 you are a GSG rather than other strategy
1. Many many simulated independent entities (20-30+ npc:s or i guess could be human)
2. many heavily interconnected simulated loops and systems
3. little abstracted boardgame like actions
@brodiegames I dont think you need to run a nation for example. I think you can make a gsg at many scales as long as there is enough independent actors and strategy. Dune Spice Wars could be a gsg if it had another 20 or so factions for example
@brodiegames Old world I think slides a little towards GSG from the Civ formula, but is still rooted in boardgame mechanics > simulation so its not a gsg to me.
Games like Mount & Blade and Starsector I would argue are very close to GSG
