Am I the only one with high hopes of finally getting a fix on HLL Unreal Engine crashes in update 12? I mean the new stuff is cool and exciting, but what I desperately need now is a fix that makes playing this game less of a stressful project for me (as currently I am expecting random crashes every minute during a match, especially if I am having fun XD).

Now, I have tried many of these “fixes” that developers and other people have suggested on the internet, and nothing really works. There is something fatally wrong with this game, and not our PCs. For, why do we not have similar problems with other games and only HLL seems to be crashing randomly and frequently? The developers seriously need to look at this infuriating issue.

(Q) I keep getting the Unhandled Exception: 0xffffffff error. What can I do?

(A) From Discord's DreamMaker: The problem was due to RivaTuner. I deleted and re-installed it normally. I also did a DDU on the graphics drivers and checked file integrity in Steam and everything worked for me.

(A) From Steam's SirCups: Go to C:\Users\AppData\Local\HLL\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

In there delete every file except for your Input that way you wont lose keybindings. After that verify integrity and game content and relaunch the game.

Doesn’t help really. Changes the Unreal Engine crash to D3D crash.

Edit: Tried it today again: another UE4 crash.

(Q) I keep getting the GPU Crashed or D3D Device Removed error message. What can I do?

(A) Although DX12 gives a great boost to certain players, this is currently not officially supported. Please remove the -dx12 from the Steam Launch Options if you added it before.

I have tried with and without -dx12 in launch options. I have checked and rechecked for windows issues and the integrity of game files via steam. I have updated the Windows, HLL, display drivers and direct3D several times. I have moved the game directory from HDD to SSD via steam. I have performed a clean boot. I have tried launching the game with and without different launch options, I have tweaked video settings, used fullscreen or windowed fullscreen mode.

The game crashes randomly regardless; both during a populated match and in empty servers. When I launch HLL, the question is no longer if the game crashes on me or not, it’s only when it will. At some point, I sadly realised that I do not have that much free time to waste on tinkering my PC or the game in order to be able to play it consistently when I want to play it.

Please patch the game and stop reposting community “fixes” for these crashing issues. Why no other UE4 game crashes like this on my PC?

First of all, were just trying to help...

Also, "just" patching the game for issues that we dont know about is impossible to find a solution for. We continuously fixing issues, especially the ones that crash many machines, but this big a crashing amount on one machine but not others is just strange.

Can you for the moment time when the game crashes? Id like to know how much minutes it takes from when you launch the game to when it crashes please.

Then, in a few days, please launch HLL through Geforce NOW and see if there are any issues.

Thank you for doing your best to try to help me and find the solution. But please do understand the immense frustration the end user has to go through on their end while the developer is fixing things that should not have been broken in the first place.

I shared the error log in another comment under this post as you might have noticed. This may give you an idea of the cause of the crash (the error number reads like 0xffffffff, most of the times, but I have seen other error as well).

Also, as I said, the game crashes quite randomly during the matches (but rarely in game menu or when launching the game). Sometimes I can play for two hours without a single crash. And another time I have experienced 3 crashes in a row within half an hour. It happens both in populated servers during the heat of battle, and in empty servers with minimal activity.

Ah, 0xffffffff is quite a broad crash and could mean and be fixable by a wide range of solutions. So for now, do try to time it and in a few days try the GFN idea for the moment. We will all find a solution, no worries. It is a great community with lots of amazing chaps that always like to help. At the moment its too broad and uncertain.

Also, that many crashes in such a short time is something I havent seen before, and is certainly not something game wide... lets indeed figure out how this is possible. Also, please join in on Discord in the Tech-Support channel.

After the release of update 12 yesterday, I updated the game and started joining empty servers to look at the new maps. The game ran smoothly for about an hour and I ended a match in Remagen. Then the server changed to Foy Night match and I started roaming the place, but after about 10 minutes the game crashed. After sending the crash report, I immediately launched the game again and joined another server, but the moment I joined and tried to choose my team the game crashed again with a similar error log as follows:

Hmmmm... the 0xffffffff ones can be alot. Id suggest opening a ticket with Team17 Support for the moment.

I have been sending error reports detailing what's been going on, not sure if that's what you're talking about, however I did see something that said turn off enable steam overlay and verify integrity of game files which I did and so far so good but yeah if I have any future issues I'll reach out to the team directly

Sweet! Thanks for reporting back!
