The new progression system is not a good for this game. Before, you unlocked things at a very reasonable, if not fast, rate that felt balanced. And as you leveled up, you got stronger, better gear. IE: getting throwing knives, different explosives/consumables, etc. NOW, it is just a grind to get ANYTHING. I am currently level 79 on the Test Server and I haven't even unlocked the damn THROWING KNIVES. Another example, is that of the Hellfire Bomb that i am currently trying to get (again, level 79, dont have it). Once i reached level 70 i thought "Hey, shouldn't i have that by now?" Thats when i learned i was no where close. Because to get the Hellfire Bomb, you have to get the liquid fire bomb which requires the use of firebombs on "Marked" infected 15 times. Once i got that, you have to do it another 25 times! This is just crazy and ridiculous, but i wanted the hellfire bomb. So i have spent the last 4 hours playing matches where i just take 3 firebombs as a SOLO, torch 3 marked, and leave. It is a CHORE and a GRIND, to unlock things on the current 1.0 build. Words that NO ONE would attribute to the progression system on the live 6.0 build.

Another key point that i thought i'd point out is that this "progression" system is almost gatekeeping. For instance, on the current 6.0 live server, If i see a weapon another hunter or my Partner is using, such as lets say the sparks sniper, and i think that I may want to use it, I just have to level up. But on the current 1.0 build of the Test Sever, I have to not only unlock the silenced sparks first, i then have to acquire 10 headshots with any sparks variant. This doesn't seem like a lot, but it is RARE to get headshots with the sparks consistently, and I MAIN the damn thing. I think in my 80 levels i have gotten 5.

Overall, the new "progression" system is GRINDING and NOT FUN AT ALL. It locks the most fun consumables and weapons behind RIDICULOUS and TIME WASTING goals that DON'T HAPPEN NATURALLY. It is almost NEVER that i would use a fire bomb on a "marked" because, a melee attack does the same job without the sound, light, or waste of a consumable. But instead, i now have to spend RIDICULOUS amounts of dedicated time to unlock something so trivial as a damn Hellfire Bomb.

I understand the Devs wanted to make a system that "Rewarded" you with using your weapons. But it will only hinder gameplay, as most people won't have anything but the basic loadout weapons. I think we can all agree the old progression system was MUCH better and it needs to be reverted to the current LIVE 6.0 Progression system.

There will be a change to make the challenges in the Book of Weapons XP-based instead of the current specific challenges. We had to use the existing system (which makes sense for daily and weekly challenges as well as Book of Monsters unlock) since the new XP system was not available before we went on test server.

So, with one of the next updates on test earning XP with a weapon (or its variants) fills the bar towards the next unlock. This will make the progression system feel less like "side quests" and allows players to simply unlock new variants by playing how they like as long as they are using a weapon from the same unlock category.
