304s of use them as a test-case
306s how we do female characters we want to
311s reuse some technology and this was a
314s good test case for us so these are just
317s some new calculations or you'll find and
321s in the image that's generally the idea
325s is really to just makes the game a bit
328s more live um increase immersion yeah
331s yeah and right then a lot of people were
334s very excited Fatima grunts because
335s they'd they obviously have been upset
337s and now they're here
339s so if we go to the next slide yes so
343s this was actually shown I wish I
344s should've added the video but this was
347s actually shown in our loss of Delta
350s teaser video I believe yeah so you
353s already saw I think it was the prison
355s grant that was shown in that one I think
357s it was like a very small little hidden
360s yeah so basically these are what we call
364s theme drums now the idea for this is
366s that we want to make certain areas of
370s the map feel a little bit more alive
372s feel a little bit more special and what
377s we want to do is basically add runs that
379s are really specific to points of
382s interest on a map in this case there
384s will be the prisoners and the guards in
386s the prison and those in DotA and yeah
389s the idea is again just really to make
392s those enemies to be fought over and over
395s again just more interesting yeah a bit
397s more variety yeah and that's where Sonny
400s comes in because obviously we have been
402s wanting to do this earlier as we already
404s teased them earlier what are some of the
406s challenges that we faced forgetting them
408s in specific areas you know we have some
410s videos I don't know if you already want
411s to talk about it a little bit first and
413s then go to the video like the biggest
416s two things like so
417s we have like basically system or when we
419s went into early access to randomized
421s appearance of the grunts hoods vehicle
422s but Florian and and character team make
426s a lot of lot of contents and what was it
428s like at some point we just have too much
430s content right so what we need to do is
433s basically take step back and say okay we
434s need to have a better system in place
436s where we can control for a couple also
438s not only very little spawn specific runs
440s will also like which maps will actually
442s load these grunts up cause like at all
443s stick memory takes mobiles well model
446s memory in texture memory and also like
448s the loading times almost a thing that we
450s need to take care of so we need to make
451s sure we only load up what we explicitly
452s me basically yeah so no additional
454s crunch that our normal variation yeah

471s system that we can give to control what
473s we can spawn basically on the map like
475s the entire map is built up of like
477s little areas where the designers can
478s specify ok what do I want it let spawn
481s in these areas for a couple so if it's
483s the basic is the basic settings are just
485s some default runs and this is just a
487s mock set up that I made mucousy is for
489s normal ground since on female grounds
490s and then when I go back into the editor
493s I can now actually say oh there's
495s actually some attributes I can set for
497s the environments for example the first
499s one pick a thing for prison and if I
502s don't then jump at the game the system
504s is like okay cool we need to put
506s consider but the need to look like
508s prisoners or like prison guards
509s basically see you on there's a guard the
514s prisoner yeah so you made this whole
517s system date driven so the designers can
519s set up anything they want so they can
520s also add all these tag themselves for
522s example the next one I'm going to do is
523s for farmers
529s tonight yeah some farmers so now is
533s really up to the design is the level
535s design is to say okay we have place in
537s the maps where we want to sort of
538s thematic suggests it up a bit more and
539s then we can basically control what we're

632s have like 70 so skin bundles which is
635s pretty cool and each of the scheme bonus
637s actually have like sort of sub
638s variations like they can change the
640s upper torso or the lower torso you can
642s change their heads hair and that's kind
645s of stuff is really cool so how many
646s variations do we have at the moment well
649s we have 70 here and I see all variations
651s for five along I think with the
656s additional variations but now I think
657s been somewhat double the amount of
660s grunts will happen again
661s that's a lot of grunt
663s so here I showed this for example this
666s is also completely different so the
668s designers can specify what the very
670s issues will be and what they look like
671s and then you can also specify like extra
674s sort of meta information that will be
676s injected into the entity so that they
677s can identify what it is for example
679s already seen that some from are tagged
680s male or female or prison and this kind
682s of stuff they can then use in logic when
685s the entity spawns to do specific things
687s that you need to do for example for
689s females you want to have a different
690s audio to sound for example or if they
693s have a different weapon we need to make
694s me specify some time it's more the fire
697s this kind of stuff okay
699s nice and I know that you're also working
703s on improving some AI so last week we
706s talked a little bit about improvements
709s for the Z improvements for both the
715s grammar you can stop the video like this
717s this is for this is a setup example of

725s edit at it's only edit all the areas
728s they have now sort of sort of a
729s selection procedure as well that says

743s also make more combinations for example

750s males and females in the same group and
751s then we can control like well how what's
753s a chance for picking a male or picking a
755s female for example so how likely is it

759s spawning like a 50/50 it's a purely is
761s 50/50 but we can set it to anything okay

766s show like how we can for example make a
768s new entry here yeah these are the things

908s control how many variations should be
911s selected per met but also for platform
914s because the foot for consoles for
916s example we have less memory so now we
918s can specify for example of OPC we can
921s take like say 10
922s farmer variance but also we only do five
925s because we just remember conserve memory
927s which is pretty cool I think okay how
929s much because how much the different is
931s that then if you have indeed like more
933s variants like why does that take more
936s memory if you have just the same like
938s you just have lesser on the map or just
940s the same lesser variance well every
943s variant basically could have this like
945s its own set of textures or even as its
948s own models everything so all of these
951s need to be loaded basically mm-hmm
953s basically be able to render them so if
955s we can just reduce these that'll just
957s save memory and also save a bit of
958s loading time as well
962s yeah then to a little bit because to
964s catch back on the last extreme we have
966s also mentioned some of the improvements
968s for the grunts but also like the house
971s and on the discord we already have been
974s asking you n on reddit I believe as well
975s for some feedback so yeah you have
978s already we have already gathered oh yes
980s quite a lot of stuff but what what are
983s we looking for exactly well yes we're
984s very happy that the community can also
986s help us in finding issues and like
989s identifying where the problems are for
991s example and what really helps us is
993s recordings because like yeah sometimes
996s you read already like yeah hey there was
997s in the eye and suddenly killed me blah
999s blah blah okay yet we're very sure that
1000s it happens but from the context it's
1002s really hard to understand like nai it
1004s has many different elements and any of
1007s them could be broken like it could be a
1008s real bug in its perception or may be
1011s something in the behavior but it can
1013s also be something like yeah there's
1014s maybe on the map some physics proxy
1016s missing so we actually can see if the
1018s wall or maybe the material dampening
1021s factors for some damping factors haven't
1022s set up on specific walls so this is why
1024s you could hear you through the wall so
1025s for us this is really hard to see from
1027s just text basically mm-hmm so what we
1030s are looking for is like videos like we
1032s find couple videos and we look at them
1034s we also laugh at them like hey this
1036s looks like a really silly bug but that
1038s really helps us to identify what the
1040s problems are it's like we can actually
1041s then go into the map and look like hey
1042s what's going on around here for example
1044s so if anybody wants to send some
1046s information or like stuff that's broken
1048s a video is always also exactly okay so
1052s let's go to the next slide so we
1054s Audio that's your department yes so we
1058s of course if you have male and female
1060s grunts you obviously want to have a
1062s variation of that as well - you know
1064s mimic and reflect that so in the end we
1066s were pretty happy with the male grunts
1068s we got so we decided to to just give it
1071s a little bit different Tamara so that's
1076s I think yeah that's the the male attack
1078s one and just hit the female 1s
1083s comparison please or as nothing that
1093s example it's the death you might have
1096s heard as well killing all the drugs so
1098s you might have heard it sounds like me
1102s and then the same in the female variant
1116s as you as you can hear it's like they
1118s they are very similar because we didn't
1120s want to change the the overall style of
1122s the grunts but we still wanna make sure
1125s that the the females are sounding a bit
1127s different just to you know increase
1128s variation and not having you know the
1131s same soundscape regardless of the gender
1133s so I actually asked because like how
1135s what are the sounds based off because I
1137s thought that we had people I didn't know
1140s had people like make like rad sound so
1143s now we'd like change that but apparently
1145s it's made out of multiple sense yes for
1149s a for a whole stream how we did all the
1151s monstrous and abominations but so
1154s basically it's a mix of human parts
1156s because for example the cuffing I think
1158s it's pretty obvious that is based on a
1159s human recording but of course we also
1162s mix other elements in there the animal
1164s stuff and what animals are in grunts I
1168s actually I don't know Christian and
1176s Jonas would answer because they are
1177s experts in designing all the creatures
1179s and I don't know we went through so many
1182s different variations and and iterations
1184s on them to really start with the
1185s original voice recording and trying to
1187s alter
1188s in the end it's more what we find more
1190s interesting was you not using a human
1193s voice and transferring that into the
1194s typical zombie because that's like the
1196s everybody knows so we were more like
1199s thinking okay maybe use other sounds and
1200s transfer it into the human range of you
1203s know shifting frequencies all that so
1205s yeah I think it qualifies for another
1207s stream where we definitely you know can
1209s explain a little more in detail what we
1210s used but in the ground definitely yeah
1213s there's all sorts of little animal and
1215s snippets so they consist of I don't know
1217s hundreds of little snippets they work
1219s together to make the grunt noise they do
1221s so now you hear it we're gonna have an
1223s audio stream at some point at some point
1225s yeah and I mean I do have to ask I think
1229s a lot of people are asking because
1231s you're also one of the people
1232s responsible for all the songs that we
1234s have in the game I know a lot of people
1237s are like but I just want to know what
1239s the soundtrack is and I want to have if
1240s it's getting like fell a little bit do
1243s we do specific like why do you do
1244s specific soundtrack for the two monitors
1247s or so yeah there was one very funny
1250s thing is like last week when the when
1252s the female teaser was was release we are
1255s sitting there like we have to do a
1256s female humming and then it got released
1259s because we didn't have enough time and
1260s immediately someone said like yeah
1262s where's the female humming missed
1263s opportunity and we were like we we
1266s wanted to do this but we just ran out of
1268s time to do it so I cannot promise when
1272s but we will have female humming
1273s eventually okay and of course they're
1276s more songs coming and who might have
1278s listened very carefully to the teasers
1281s and stuff you can already hear the
1282s instrumental versions of the upcoming
1284s songs but obviously there will be a
1286s vocal on top of that and yeah at some
1290s point we're gonna reveal that as well
1292s yeah I'm afraid I think a lot of people
1294s have been excited about the songs like I
1296s hear this and every video it's like
1298s where is the song where is the song I
1300s want to listen to it the Christmas song
1302s too yummy we have to make a Christmas
1304s female male version for this year I
1306s guess so yeah it's it's piling up there
1309s will be a lot moving towards Christmas I
1311s guess yeah we're gonna have like the
1313s grunts in there
1315s let's go to the next slide so female
1318s hunters yes that is that is very similar
1321s as well but I think we start with you
1323s first right the pictures in it
1325s yep Victor's so yeah few more hunters I
1327s think one of the most highly requested
1329s features and the thing that I probably
1331s see inch at the most when we're asking
1334s for questions on topic of those stream
1336s that it's not about today you can ask
1338s when is it coming we can tell you that
1340s go ahead so well they're obviously
1344s coming with the DOE and we announce the
1347s date as well 27th of August well we have
1354s the trailer I think it was Tuesday
1356s Tuesday so you've already seen you know

1363s about how we made them how we came up
1366s with it is under action just DD process

1372s the variations we have not all of them

1398s the main things we really wanted to get
1402s them to a point where they just say rod
1404s and next to the millender's and it's
1406s just seamless and they feel part of the
1408s world and everything makes sense exactly
1410s so he we see here three three tiers

1448s this is just a sample of course we
1451s really wanted to feel them authentic
1454s like off the time off the era so we
1458s looked at a little photographs from back
1460s then we obviously also reference movies
1463s whatever we found that that made sense
1466s and then just focused in on you know a
1469s certain direction that we felt made
1472s sense and then you know kind of narrowed
1475s it in that way I think these pictures
1478s are fairly good idea whether they're
1481s going for just badass hard rough woman
1486s that's you know cool so bad not bad as
1492s woman you right now
1494s yeah they look various and I was
1497s actually reading his article which had
1498s like the dump tent gunslingers I mean
1500s they were all criminals again so I
1502s thought gunslinger was in general more
1503s like also keep being good kind of cowboy
1506s but I guess that's not really a thing if
1507s it's a gunslinger but they all looked
1510s very badass and like a lot of people a
1512s lot of people seem to have a lot of
1514s trouble these women so yeah want to go
1516s to Nick's or um I mean I don't know if
1520s he wants one so this is done like a
1523s first stage of concept in this is
1526s basically I want to one mapping of the
1528s male hunters over to you know female
1529s characters same outfits same shape
1532s language and everything thing work
1536s something feels a bit off like I mean at
1538s some of the of the Afghan outfits work a
1540s little bit better but something wasn't
1543s quite right for for these variations
1547s felt maybe a bit too modern in some ways
1550s a bit too like a costume maybe so it was
1555s a good starting point but we figured we
1557s would have to refine some things and get
1559s a bit of a different flavor so then this
1565s was something that kind of brought us on
1568s the right track
1571s this yeah actually was very much like a
1573s high fashion like mm-hmm very loose
1577s clothing you know their particular fits
1582s very particularly you know styles of
1585s clothing and I think that was the the
1588s thing that was kind of missing like in
1590s the in the previous picture the
1591s variations kind of felt a bit they
1593s didn't have that historic walk to them
1596s and we figured well okay if we have
1598s clothing had a little bit of a different
1600s cuts a little bit more not exactly
1604s historically accurate because well pants
1606s and whatnot did exist but you know women
1609s it was more rare right yeah but we could
1614s you know we could obviously treat and
1616s then kind of make up our own thing and
1618s there's sort of let's call it fashion
1622s wipe was sort of a good a good idea that
1626s that we felt really worked out and then
1629s with that combining these two ideas we
1631s ended up with the final direction if you
1635s will so these are again like a
1637s progression and yeah I mean the the one
1640s on the left is still you know it's
1642s pretty more including but then you see
1644s okay we have some some other clothing
1646s that is you know it has a different feel
1649s than the very first concepts we did yeah
1651s like it's a little bit more interesting
1654s I would say ya know so like well there
1657s are because like obviously you can still
1659s see that they're still in a sense like
1661s going the same direction that they still
1662s feel unique enough to be their own
1665s things
1665s ya know we really wanted to make them
1667s yeah like make them fit in and you know
1671s be you know immediately relatable to the
1674s mill hundreds but then half of unique
1678s shape language half a unique look to
1680s them um okay don't if you get the next
1684s one yeah this is just some some more
1686s variations but if you do that one back
1691s yeah just like it's about like really
1696s the fit of the clothing you know we
1698s raised the waistline a little bit you
1699s know higher pants you know some stuff
1702s that is fitting a little bit well loose
1704s it was really small details but like
1707s combining all these elements kind of
1709s gave us a overall you know look that
1712s that we should have worked yeah and how
1714s many variations do we have about now
1717s um right now we're gonna have something
1719s like what we originally launched it
1721s would for the mill hunters so it's not
1722s gonna be exactly as as many as we have
1725s male hunters right now but in the same
1729s ballpark yeah I think we're right now
1732s yes somewhere in the 40s I think yeah
1737s right I'm not you're talking over Asians
1740s we can just show you some so these are
1743s venison one where Asians and yeah what
1746s you see is like we have like we have
1748s blouses we have hats you know really
1752s loose-fitting pants stuff that kind of
1754s has a bit more of a you know all the
1757s tiny feel to it
1759s that's what was kind of missing in the
1762s very first experience with it yeah then
1766s we have some variations yeah just
1770s getting yeah getting more badass you
1775s know much looser fitting just more loose
1779s fitting clothing yeah longer stuff like
1783s for the authority of ones we generally
1784s try to stay away from big coats and
1786s ponchos and whatnot anything all fancy
1789s scarfs and and and all the gear and
1793s gadgets they're wearing that's really
1795s starting with the tier 2 ones I'm done
1798s for tier 3 yeah just some more
1802s variations and the left one is I think
1813s she liked we half the we have a similar
1817s you know
1819s extravagant mail hundreds well like with
1822s the armor and the morgue and he's a bit
1824s out there so we figure let's do a FEMA
1827s hunter who's on par but yeah she looks
1832s really really badass that's full full
1836s sleeve and everything and facial tattoos
1838s as well that's great nice and what is
1841s like the inspiration for some of the
1843s like because the right one is I feel
1846s they're gonna want us wonder this
1847s closest who like the male hunter you
1849s have like the skin I mean you saw it in
1850s the trailer it's the one you had as well
1852s but like for example the right one is
1854s more unique especially the dull one like
1856s what okay so well it's sort of we
1859s figured that for hats we run into a bit
1862s of an issue because like if you take
1864s like the the typical Calvary hat we have
1867s animal on dress it just mm-hmm
1870s it didn't quite feel right so we
1873s experimented with different shapes and
1875s about hoods work really well and then we
1879s also figured well let's do like a head
1880s wrap like some sniper head cover type
1883s thing that you know would also just you
1887s know look badass and and you know you
1889s know give us some headgear options yeah
1891s nice yeah in general for people are
1894s wondering the hitboxes are to save you
1898s can shoot them just as well as you can
1900s shoot men all good
1902s so we're I think we just have some
1907s examples of like some of the faces we
1908s did yeah so yeah this is just some of
1911s the different faces we did for the photo
1913s female hunters um these are all hand
1916s sculpted we didn't use cons buddies um
1919s and then we have some more and actually
1923s the one on the right is a bit of a tease
1925s for a legendary skin Oh looking I do
1934s think they're really really good oh yeah
1935s that's next but uh yeah I mean I would
1938s let them look a little bit more about
1939s where's the McCormick's cream 100 I'm
1941s not getting one it's fine I can live
1944s without that I don't want you to kill me
1946s often
1947s so yeah what you see here is the
1950s recruitment screen because obviously
1952s you'll be able to recruit them just like
1953s you do with mill hunters and it will
1955s just be random so it's about 50/50 so
1959s sometimes you can have one more of
1960s either gender but you will be able to
1963s recruit one of them at least for sure
1966s and obviously it's still like tier 1
1969s tier 3 2 or 3 tier 1 tier 2 2 3
1974s yeah it's a teeny-tiny teaser video yeah

1978s because we are going to keep it a secret
