Idea: A message queue that is actually just creating and using Twitter accounts and DMs with compressed messages encoded as Emojis. Fan-out model could be accomplished with group DMs.
@archyb0t @ImSaimo We don't have plans at this point to actually offer multi-server infrastructure, but the server API has methods for you to send players between servers. A bungee-like proxy system won't be needed. A simple cross-server communication plugin will be all that's needed.
"Sorry! This video is for premium subscribers only." Hmmm, guess I'll use their free trial. *puts in credit card info and starts 14 day trial* "Sorry! This video is for premium subscribers only.". Guess I'm cancelling that account @FUNimation :/
Idea for a @Kubernetesio project: Automated hardware testing. Cordon and drain X% of your nodes at a configurable time each night, run tests on SSDs, CPUs, NICs, etc. Start a Job for any that fail (webhook, email data center, pagerduty, whatever)
You could argue that it'd increase wear-and-tear on otherwise healthy devices, but I'd rather reduce my SSD lifespan by 10% to know *exactly* when it has failed, without impacting any running services. Plus the automation of repairs would save more man-hours than spent on parts.
Idea: TLS-over-QR. Point a phone front facing camera at a laptop. They scan each other's QR codes and establish an encrypted channel to send information to each other. Use case: inputting a long password from my phone into my computer without installing 1Password on laptop.
@MajesticFudgie Biggest challenge will be data transit tbh. Even at 10gbps, that'll take 8h+. Impl would depend on the type of data being backed up, ex: our mongo cluster does some cool oplog stuff to give us constant point-in-time backups as long as we do at least one full backup per day. (1/?)
@MajesticFudgie I'd start with onsite full backups to a HDD array, since that'll at least give you quick restorability. Then look at ways you can cleanly do a live incremental backup, since I imagine most of that 32TB doesn't change daily. As for actual data storage long-term, (2/?)
@Hybrid_Brad @Simon_Hypixel @NickKlein95 @MrWoofless We push ~1.5PB/mo in clean egress, purely of MC traffic. That plus our 400 servers is something like $200,000+ per month. *Several times* as much as we pay currently.
Back in Melbourne for the next few weeks! I'll be at @GCAPConf, then @PAXAus, and a few other events along the way with @_ZeroErrors and @Thorlon and friends. Give me a shout if anyone wants to meet up!
@Morrison I mean really it's all just to make way for the people-mover project construction to start, with the eventual goal of removing the "horseshoe" drive loop totally in 2023. https://www.lawa.org/en/connectinglax/automated-people-mover IMO worth the pain, even if it's confusing and hectic for some short-term.
LOL apparently I'm banned from @Newegg from when they had a mistake on an item listing (said it was a 5-pack when it wasn't), refused to fix my order, then AMEX sided with me and gave me my money back and fined Newegg. Guess I'll just use a better site. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sent as many of the Hytale newsletter emails as our provider let's us per day. If you didn't receive it yet, you'll get it tomorrow when our daily send limit resets, so don't panic.
Alright, just finished sending the December Hytale Newsletter. If you didn't get it, check your spam/junk folder. If it's not there, you might've typo'd when signing up! Sign up again at https://hytale.com/signup and you'll get the confirmation email confirming newsletter signup :)
@YTSilverr @Noxywoxy That's intentional. Users who signed up before the most recent newsletter got the newsletter, while users after only got the beta confirmation email.
Giving up on DoorDash, just gonna go pick up my food from the restaurant like it's 2016 because drivers can't seem to follow Google Maps for some reason? Literally in the delivery opts "Use Google Maps," and then they don't answer texts when they're in front of wrong bldg😐
Hey @BlizzardCS, I just got around to redeeming my Treasure Chest redeemable code from this this year's Blizzcon for a WoW cosmetic, and it's saying it's already redeemed by someone else. Where should I open a ticket about this?
@Quacku_ @BattleDashBR @Simon_Hypixel Easy. We respond to *.hypixel.net so literally any subdomain works. This is used for our Tate museum exhibit and similar things like that, and lets us do cool things like have a special domain that puts you straight into a game of skywars etc.
Made some network stability fixes to the @HypixelNetwork today. First time working on it in awhile, good to interact with the players again. Hopefully it helps with the issues we'd been having the past few days :)
My face when the Bose Noise Cancelling 700's *removed* the factory reset that was present in all prior versions of their headphones. Utter incompetence.
@ThePedroEsparza Sound quality: Good. Wireless range: Better than the QC35ii's (15 yards for me). Ability to turn off noise cancelling is really nice. Impossible-to-disable "touch surface" that I frequently accidentally touch is not nice. Overall a mixed bag, but by far the best sound-cancelling.
@ThePedroEsparza Oh and the fact that they charge with USB-C is a godsend when traveling. I'm now 100% USB-C (Phone, Laptop, Headphones, Portable battery in & out), so I can get by with just one single cable while traveling if I need to.
