I'm a bit confused how the mouse-over DPS is calculated, as I'm looking to upgrade my weapon, but it keeps showing as lower value when the alternate weapon initial stats seem vastly superior.

Dreamthorne - Relevant Stats

Base Attack Rate 1.02

+30 Melee Physical Damage

+40 Melee Void Damage

+40% Void Penetration

Helm - Relevant Stat

+10 Melee Physical Damage if Wielding a Sword

Dark Terror Mace of Static

Base Attack Rate 0.9

+106 Melee Physical Damage

+47 Melee Void Damage

28% Increased Melee Attack Speed

+60% Chance to Poison

+67% Chance to Shock

When swapping, my overall Increased Melee Attack Speed (on the Character sheet) goes from 53% to 60%. Since this accounts for the weapon speed, it shows the Mace is attacking faster than the Sword. The only outlier is the Void Penetration - is it really making that big of a difference, mitigating -7% Attack Speed, -73 Melee Damage?

It is vastly overestimating the value of ailments. While poison chance might seem irrelevant, that's probably what is causing the numbers to spike. We have adjusted the formula and will continue to do so. It's a tricky thing to get right as each skill works so differently based on what nodes you have.

Interesting! Thanks for the response.

Also just to clarify, the Sword shows a higher DPS compared to the Mace, so even with the overvalued Poison chance, the Mace is still shown as subpar.

Yea, I'm not sure why those specific items are different. I'm not sure which skill you're looking at and what the other stats on the sword are.

Oh!

I'm looking at Warpath.

Dreamthorne - Remaining Stats

+19% Block Chance

27 Health Gain on Block

32 Block Effectiveness

My best guess would be, based on your ailment comment, that it's accounting for Time Rot DoT with the Void Penetration, rather than the hit of the weapon itself.

Oh it has a particularly difficult time with Warpath and dots created by Warpath. The Void Penetration is effectively a 40% more damage modifier for any void damage and if you have Time Rot, that can spike the damage of that dot really high. While we do have some updates for that coming down the pipe, for now you'll just have to hit a dummy to test it out.
