Yes, i know. More Trade whining - but hear me out here.

I am not screaming "add trade Babyrage", i am simply asking myself why the game is being made into an always-online experience that you can not play offline, why base the game on an online multiplayer server, if the multiplayer aspect is optional anyway, and there is no trading.

Have been playing Grim Dawn recently, where Multiplayer is done via P2P connection, and players hosting the session on their end, not requiring a connection to a central server. And i am not going to lie, recently i had a very spotty internet connection (shoutout to Telekom! Worst service!) - however, as the game doesn't force a connection, i could still play offline with no issues.

I just wonder where the benefits of a central server multiplayer are, when there is no central trading economy relying on such a structure? Why not save money and structure multiplayer like Grim Dawn, where it is player hosted (opening up Mod support too, something that keeps GD fresh and active).

I will also add some salt into the post here - the game has lost a lot of appeal for me after the no-trade announcement. I am disappointed, but i can see why EHG took this direction, even if i disagree. I was looking forward to a trade based game. Probably will play LE a lot less than i would have with trade.

tl;dr:
no "add trade" qq, but asking myself why a central server connection is needed without a central economy - Would rather have a solid offline experience with optional P2P multiplayer.

(now downvote me to hell for mentioning trade)

I know it's really tough to keep up with all the info because it gets very slightly changed as it gets relayed.

It feels like you might have missed that the firm no trade announcement was for the 0.9 release.

I also think you might have missed that 0.9 and beyond will continue to have offline single player. It will actually be even more offline capable than before. This beta multiplayer test is specifically to get feedback on the multiplayer servers, not give early access to the new content.

It's just so tough to have discussions like this with skewed info so I thought I'd clear that up.

Good question! A lot of it is to to do with keeping the competitive aspects of the game from client-side hacking. To have leaderboards, race events, or other things we may do in the future legitimate we need to have server authority. There’s also conveniences like characters being saved server side so you don’t potentially lose client-hosted characters and not having to rely on a p2p connection that is likely less reliable than our paid-for servers. We also do want the prestige of finding items and being able to show them off with people knowing you actually earned it. Then there’s MTX, but then again we likely wouldn’t need to offer MTX if we weren’t having to pay for a ton of high performance servers.

It’s a ton of work but we think the upsides are worth it in the long run.
