Hey guys, came back from my brief foray to D4 and was thinking about Monos again. I know the devs are working on either a new / improved mono system and I had an idea I think would beat two birds with one stone.

  1. Reduce it to just 3 Monos

Grinding 10 / 20 monos with each new character is almost as bad as grinding campaign. I propose dropping it to just 3. They all scale but roughly translate to:

  • New Character / Levelling Mono (1-50)

  • Typical Mono System (50-80)

  • Empowered Mono

New Characters can instantly access the first one, once it’s “cleared” (more on that in a minute) they can access the 2nd and once that’s “cleared” you access the Empowered Mono

  1. Each Mono has longer paths or “trees” that feature Bosses / Blessings at the end

Since the Monos are scaling to level over longer gaps they feature trees. I’m thinking longer deeper branches that break off near the start. The deeper maps feature more rewarding / harder variants. Each tree ends with a specific boss fight and the boss fights give you a Blessing. Beating a boss would reset some part of the branch so the core loop still exists and maps can re roll.

Naturally to keep everything in game it could be 5 branches per Mono though the current layout could be preserved if it’s reduced to 4.

  1. Empowered Monos - you choose a boss and two item categories

The empowered Mono maintains player choice in grinding by allowing a boss choice and item choices. Corruption is added the same way.

Well it’s just a rough draft idea and I obviously am not a game dev. But what do you guys think?

I've been on a misinformation information mission lately with regards to comments about the monolith system.

We have no plans for a new or revamped monolith system.

We do plan to add new features to the monolith and improve elements of what is already there too. The core system is not under review.
