If you are somehow still playing league on these ancient os you will need to soon upgrade to windows 7 or newer to play LoL. Once patch 9.10 hits you will not be able to play anymore so I figured I would remind people still using these os.

unless riot intentionally locks out xp and vista it is unlikely to break as soon as 9.10 is released (provided they are not releasing something at the same time as 9.10 which doesn't work on vista and xp)
Sorry - it does mean that LoL won't work on Vista and XP. You'll need to upgrade your OS in order to keep playing.
And yes, this does mean that you'll no longer be able to play League on an ATM.

Is this an OS support issue or a DirectX issue?
Path of Exile did something similar recently and they actually ended DirectX 9 support, including DirectX 9 EX(available on Win7) and that meant the game couldn't be played on all video cards that don't support DirectX 11.
There are a lot of PC/laptops that run Windows 8/10 but on DirectX 9 to 10.1 integrated cards.
