Tl;dr - Yone's E provides way too much safety for him. The ability to do all of your abilities' and autos' and then just blink back with no real counterplay (cc cleanse on recall), PLUS a 25-35% damage mark that bursts on the recall... it's just way too much safety. He's not broken, but this one ability lowers the skill ceiling on a champ that could be way more fun to play as and against.

This point is practically indisputable and has been mentioned before. I'm just bringing it up because I don't actually think Yone is broken. His kit is well designed, at least in terms of making a fun champion (for the one playing him). Really, the only thing that tips him way above many mid laners is his E.

In League, you should always have to trade safety for damage. If you go in for a bunch of damage, this should put you in a position to be damaged. The exception to that being finishers that or very difficult to hit abilities, like Ezreal / Caitlyn ult (both are on huge timers anyways). Many champions have dashes for engaging and/or disengaging. When Samira was released, her dash provided too much safety, so it was changed to not allow it to target allies.

Same concept with Yone E. Generally, with dashes, you are stuck where you dashed in. Some dashes provide exceptions upon killing an enemy, like Tristana jumping. Yone? Nah! Let's just give him the ability to run around ghosted for up to 5 seconds, and then blink all the way back to where he started, cleansing all CC including polymorph! Then, the dash itself just adds 25-35% of all the damage he did on top as true damage!

Of course, this is on top of the fact that using his E propels you forward, then he has another fairly long ranged dash (which knocks up enemies), and an ult that dashes Yone forward approximately 800 units and further CCs all enemies. None of those other things are broken, but being able to do all of that and then immediately blink back to where you started is more safety than any champion I can come to think of. Plenty of champs can do Yone's damage or even out damage him entirely. But not with nearly as much safety in their kit.

Solutions? Any one of these works.

  1. The timer is 5 seconds flat for his E (If that sounds short, that's the same time as two level-3 Morgana Qs). The timer should be shortened if Yone travels beyond a certain distance from the point of cast.
  2. Add a max distance to how far he can travel, as if he were bound by the fact that its a spirit projection outside of the spirit realm. The size of Mordekaiser's R arena would be about right, maybe a bit more to compensate for the R range.
  3. Completely rework the ability to make it similar to an Illaoi clone. That is, the clone of Yone (no rhyme intended) that projects outward has 50-75% of Yone's max health, maybe with reduced resistances. When this clone dies, or if the timer runs out, the clone is dissipated and Yone becomes himself again, at the point of cast. Yone takes 50% of all damage dealt to the clone. This could be balanced in a number of ways, which it would need to be to make it totally fair. But it's an idea.

Feel free to share your opinion on the matter.

I will die on this hill, no matter what: Yone got released because riot is a dick.

"Oh, you all hate our edgelord prizepony yasuo and ban him a ton? Here is his brother who is even easier to play and just as stupid"

Yasuo's kit is incredibly overloaded with the passive shield, windwall, and a ton of mobility. Yone's kit is a little less overloaded but the champ is a TON easier aswell, especially with LT and shieldbow "abuse".

I honestly just pitched making Yone because I saw he used two swords in the LoR card and thought "That would be cool."
