External link →So is this really how they plan to resolve Piltover’s apartheid oppression of Zaun?
I legit thought no way they’re resorting to the “common enemy” trope in the middle of the episode. I thought too highly of the show I guess.
Zaunite liberation deserved better respect from the story.
Viktor truly solved racism
At least his solution was more… equal than the bullsh*t status quo we’re left with at the end.
“One Zaunite on the council, so it’s all good now! Forget the decades of oppression and the full-scale assault we launched on y’all just a few weeks ago! Also thanks for the bodies, really helped us out against Noxus. We can still count on Zaun for cheap labor and resources though, right?”
You say this as if the show copped out when it was always the intention to have Piltover and Zaun maintain that tension at the end of the show. Individual Champions can die or progress past where they are in League since the game itself is kind of non-canon, but Runeterra's geopolitics have to remain consistent to the lore for the settings to make sense.
Zaun’s independence would fit better with the pre-existing lore, so I’m not sure what point you’re arguing. Tension? Yes, we need that. The perpetuation of the apartheid state? No, we didn’t.
"What do I care if we'll all killed by either an invading army or a world ending threat in the next day or two? Can we focus on my side of the fence being grossly uncomfortable, not on the fact there won't be anything to fight for or to improve if we don't fight this major threat?"
You’re missing the point. Of course Zaun and Piltover have to cooperate against Noxian invasion, that’s obvious. The problem is that this isn’t real life, this is a fictional story. The writers chose to resolve the conflict this way. The writers chose to erase the history of apartheid oppression, erase the liberation of Zaun, and wash away Piltover’s sins all because they had to come together to beat the big bad. It’s bad writing and even worse political analysis.
