Not many people will care about this, but hopefully the Clash Challenges will get updated along with the new schedule. If not, at 14 clash weekends per year:

  • Clash Contenders: Win 800 games in Clash
    • If you win every tournament 3-0, this will now take 800 / (14*6) = 7 years
  • Clash Champion: Win 250 Clash brackets
    • 250 / (14*2) = 9 years
  • Scoreboard: Finish with more wins than losses in Clash 500 times
    • 500 / (14*2) = 18 years

This is a great callout, ill pass this on to the team--thanks!

There's no way they actually just killed 2 months of SR clash for ARAM after reducing clash overall. That is such dogshit.

Hey Riru, I have a couple of concerns about the changes to the number of clash games per year:

To preface this, I've played in almost every single bracket since the beta, and there's a few things I noticed.

The biggest problem I have with Clash is just having a team that is available all the time. There are times where you will have one teammate that has to go out of town or someone cancels last minute because something comes up. I am typically the only one scouting out teammates, meaning most people aren't spending a lot of time putting together a team. A lot of players end up asking "do we have 5 players tonight" and then just play.

The secondary problem to this is that most players who are playing Clash just play Clash regularly. If you look at match history from scouting, a large group of players did play in the previous tournament, so I don't believe this is going to inflate the numbers enough to counter the bigger problem which is smurfing.

Overall, I personally am sad that I won't get to play Clash more than once a month, it feels even worse when I think that missing a bracket means you won't be able to play for another month.

Following that, the for fun tournaments are great for getting more players into Clash, but it just feels like you lose out on a tournament. It would have felt a lot better to have it mixed into the bracket setting (have a normal bracket, then a for fun one two weeks later, then back to regular schedule), but now if you just want to play on SR, you're going to have to wait two months for the next bracket to come up.

These changes feel like they aren't fixing the bigger problems revolving around Clash, and are band-aid fixes that "might" work.

First of all thanks for your commitment to Clash and for writing this up! I think the team would agree with some assessments you've made, but I can definitely tell you we're trying stuff out.

Some changes might work (we're hopeful they do!) and resolve issues, some stuff might not and might get changed later. The main goal is to make Clash a higher quality experience for participants that feels good/worth to participate in.

To respond to your "if you just want to play on SR, you're going to have to wait two months for the next bracket to come up" comment in particular, this is actually something we chatted about today since its popped up a few times (thank you reddit feedback) so its something we're thinking about at the very least.
