Mordekaiser was the very first champion I'd ever encountered through the silly BR HUE memes long before I'd even start playing the game for real in S3. To this day he is still my highest mastery champion even with the majority of my time played being before the mastery system was even introduced.

Like many other of his mains we were insanely frustrated with the Juggernaut update which abruptly shifted his identity as a solo laner into a gimmicky AP melee bot laner that had to rely on busted XP sharing mechanics and a gimmicky ghost dragon to be relevant and was promptly gutted after completely warping the S5 worlds meta around him. Riot would finally throw us a bone by making him somewhat passable in a solo lane even if it took some considerable tradeoffs such as have less base armor than SONA, but the damage was ultimately done. We had been promised a full scale VGU at some point down the line, but had no idea when until that wonderful news came at the beginning of the year

Now, just a single day away from his live release, the pent up anxiety of nearly four long years can finally be released. The Mordekaiser community by and large, myself included, has been overwhelmingly positive for the general direction of this VGU. The visuals are outstanding, his kit feels weighty and menacing and finally brings something truly unique to the table that justifies picking him in this modern metagame today. While there are lesser nitpicks like the change of philosophy towards VGU's skin quality that all pales in comparison to the core gameplay and thematics.

And so, with his release imminent, this semi-jokey/protest account can finally be laid to rest. It's been an honor gentlemen ('_')7.

I always saw your posts, and when I picked up Mordekaiser as my project, I thought of you and looked forward to the day we could finally answer "when."

...then I forgot to follow-up when we announced, but I'm glad your time has finally come. I hope you enjoy it :)

Is there any chance you ever had a league account named 'Xengic'?

While I love new Morde, I'm curious as to what you guys think about people that are sad that their champion has basically been replaced with another? A fair number seem to stop playing because of this. I saw this happen more with the Aatrox rework, I love new Aatrox but he's also the one I see people complain more about.

That's always tough for me. I've been a gamer my whole life, and I know how much it sucks when something you like is changed, nerfed, etc.

It's a difficult balance between trying not to ruin something that people love, but also trying to create something new that even more people will love for years to come. I try to be extremely respectful of what/who the champion was and why people loved them when I do a rework. Of course, you will never please everybody. I feel the best I can do is try to really understand why people loved the old champion and look for ways to bring that essence forward, even if specific abilities change.
