Apart from the map not being exactly symmetrical, river lowground is another thing related to map design that only frustrates players with no upside to it. The only thing it does is mess up skillshot indicators and having all of those Jhin W's or Morgana Q's hit or miss when it feels like they shouldn't.

Even the thematic works in Riot's favor. You go for the VOID themed map. Push the thematics more towards Shurima which is the place where Void is mostly encountered in Runeterra. Replace the river with a desert. Or, if nature is one of those things that change people's perception of how the game feels and you want it to stay 'positive', just dry out the river into grasslands so it's not as depressing.

I might be wrong, but it feels to me like river entrances being expanded in many places, and having the bushes further away into the river, and encouraging fights to happen over vision in new pixel bushes might cause more skirmishes to happen there, which would only increase the amount of those frustrating lowground clips.

Agree with the opportunity. In practice though, it is way harder than it seems to remove the height, on top of the art considerations. I'd estimate probably ~40% of the scope of this Season Start's Engineering and Art budget would be required just to flatten the map, because it would require re-architecting how the game is inherently structured on the backend.

it's more like it doesn't cost us anything to design it within the current constraints of the map. It's just the map, so it doesn't really affect whether we have to design around elevation or not.
