Background:
- I started playing League in 2009
- I had never played anything like a MOBA prior
- None of my friends played League (back then)
- I didn't know anything about League of Legends when I started other then it had a cool name and was free
- Speaking of cool name, I had actually been hoping it was more like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and filled with legends I already knew
Noobwick:
When I logged-in, there was an advertisement along the lines of "check out the powerful Urfwick skin!"
Since it cost money, I assumed players who bought skins got an advantage (powerful). Luckily I felt the need to Google it, and realized that was not the case.
Fast forward to 2022, I finally bought the Urfwick skin from the Blue Essence Emporium.
My first League game:
Camera - I kept trying to rotate the camera my first game. I asked other players how to do that, and one person said "This isn't Runescape" and another person chastised the first person to remind them that people were new.
Whenever I went into the jungle I would run with fear thinking the monsters would attack me (unprovoked) at any moment.
As Master Yi, I figured I would never have a reason to go back to base because I could heal.
I bought Trinity Force first - because it was the most expensive - thinking it would "unlock" and automatically be on my characters for all future playthroughs. I didn't understand why people were optimizing short term by buying crappy components.
We won that first game, which I took as generally representative of how I would perform in all future games. I'm under 50% win rate now.
13 years later, I don't get to play as much, but wanted to share some of these early memories.
