Even if you're a good mid laner you will still sometimes be matchmade against a mid laner is even better than you, but you can try to get carried by your teammates as effectively as possible. You'll want to pick a champion that can't be punished in lane even if the enemy mid is superior, so look to play something like Nautilus. Focus on farming up, never dying, and looking to assist your jungler if he's beating the enemy jungler.

If you want to see a great example of this strategy you can look up Doinb's games at Worlds where he was outclassed in almost every matchup but managed to avoid feeding and lost lane gracefully. He was able to be a quality CC bot for his teammates once they won their matchup, and because he was locking champions that didn't require much skill to play like Nautilus or Malphite he didn't have to worry much about mechanics either. This is the kind of energy you need to climb.
