Title.

I'll try to keep this short, but playerbase is declining.

Issue: All the oldies like me who've played since beta/early seasons are in their late 20s early 30s now and are quitting the game or don't have nearly the amount of time to invest in the game/watching the game anymore.

We have jobs, kids, and other responsibilities and can't grind 10 games a day and watch 6 games of LCS in a row.

That's why viewership numbers are dropping. That's why LoL streamers numbers are also dropping

Solution: Riot needs to do a better job of marketing the game to a younger market. The Mr. Beast event was a perfect example of something they should have jumped onboard and given resources for. They should have given some casters, RP giveaways, some pro players and more.

Mr. Beast is one of, if not the most popular influencer/content creator out there right now with a very large younger fanbase. To me it shows just how complacent Riot is to not take the opportunity to promote that event and utilize it to market to a younger audience.

Edit for context:

According to this site: https://escharts.com/tournaments/lol?year=2019&search=Lcs

Viewership peaked in about 2018 with one anomaly in summer 2020.

  • Spring viewership this year averaged around 120K while in 2018 it peaked around 210K.

  • Summer viewership so far has tanked down to averaging 80K so far, and peaked around 165K.

Riot doesn't release region specific playerbase numbers so LCS viewership is the best we got to measure engagement.

Just gonna hop in and say that twitch viewership IS NOT the best way to measure a game's overall player engagement.

There's a lot of games on Twitch with lower viewership that are THRIVING in terms of player engagement.
