I looked back through all of the patch notes since todays. The last time there was an actual client update was back in patch 11.19. That was 7 months ago.

In 11.22 there was one entry that was "Skip Waiting for Stats page removed from end of games experience to accurately reflect client's status."

Also, as far as I can tell, the last /dev blog post about the Client Cleanup was also 7 months ago found at the link below.

https://www.leagueoflegends.com/en-us/news/dev/client-cleanup-we-launched-the-updated-chromium-embedded-framework-cef/

Last update was they updated the CEF framework which did make some improvements. However, in that update, they mentioned making more frequent updates to the client now that the CEF was updated. Either they have just not been reporting fixes at all or they haven't done anything the past 7 months which is a bit rediculous.

I have still notices a bunch of bugs with the client myself that haven't seem to be resolved. They are:

  • Client Randomly closing.

  • Custom game lobbies not working half of the time.

  • Random notifications about passwords popping up after games.

  • Friends list disappearing.

  • Settings not being saved at all and reverting to default every log in.

  • My loading bar sometimes stops at like 30% though screen still shows game is not frozen. Half the time reconnecting to game works. Other half I end up getting a reconnecting error and have to fully reboot my computer.

Those are some I have noticed. Did Riot just drop the Client Cleanup Campaign completely? Absolute silence (unless I missed something) from Riot with status updates and now they are adding more stuff to the client like upcoming challenges and such. What gives??

Anybody know anything or have any other bugs they are experiencing? Thanks!

Hey, Appreciate the feedback,

To summarize, no we have not disappeared :). After looking at our data internally, post our CEF upgrade, the client is in good shape, but I know this opinion varies vastly across the player base globally

We are still addressing bugs that are more commonly raised through our player support channels, but we have shifted our team to focus more on improving the developer experience working in the client code. We have a strong hypothesis that if we improved the ability to quickly find and triage issues, improve our automated testing, and share best practices with all the engineers that work in the client, it will ultimately result in fewer issues our players see. We also know that updating CEF is the single biggest impact we can make to players, but we have to work through unblocking some things before we can do another one.

That first bug is not a bug, we actually auto-close the client in some circumstances to prevent issues in players who play longer sessions (you can change this in settings). and that settings-reset issue has been reported a lot over my time in this role, and I can say we have made a ton of improvements, but it continues to crop up from time to time, and we will bring this up again with our partner teams that we have a dependency on to address this.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! I do agree that the client is in a much better state now. I just thought it was weird that the updates just kind of disappeared out of nowhere. It is good to hear you all are still working on it behind the scenes!

Is there any thoughts on the custom lobby issues? I am in a few smaller competive leagues and it seems like the lobbies break a good deal of the time for multiple people. This can be anything from lobby chant disappearing to some players not showing champ select has started and they are still in the lobby.

Again, thank you for responding!

Custom lobbies are owned by another team here. I know they are pretty busy with some upcoming launches but will check to see if they are planning on addressing anything in this space
