Context.

A Rioter who just left the "Modes" team said that they were in really good hands. But so far, we have seen nothing from them since 2018.

Season 7 added :

Hunt of The Blood Moon, Dark Star Singularity, Star Guardian Invasion

Season 8 added :

OVERCHARGE, Nexus Blitz, Odyssey : Extraction

Since then, the team moved on to TFT and left LoL with mediocre rotating gamemode. We had to say goodbye to the 3v3, the way we said goodbye to Dominion. What we got in return ? Nothing.

Events has been underwhelming ever since. When old events got their own gamemode with tied quest and rewards. We've only seen URF and OFA getting pushed randomly in any events. (with the exception of Spirit Blossom who got a custom skin for Nexus Blitz)

They are plenty of other good gamemodes that could be brought back for recent events :

Ascension, Doom Bots, Hexakill, Nexus Siege, 3v3, Dominon

They even dare to release new Odyssey skins without bringing back Odyssey gamemode.

I know there are technical constraints that prevent Riot from maintaining more than 2 gamemodes at once. But this is embarassing how many games with lower playerbase got way more gamemodes and better custom games (OW, Rocket League, DOTA2, Smite...)

If there's one comment that makes me flinch every time I see it, it's this one. I can promise you that the League devs I interact with on a daily basis are some of the hardest working and dedicated devs I've ever had the pleasure to work with.

Sure, throw 100 years, spaghetti code, bugs etc at us, but our drive to make the game the best it can be for every player (we're players too) is always strong. Sometimes we just can't do all the things we'd love to do.

I think I can speak for the sane members of the community when I say that the comment isn't directed at the developers, rather management and leadership. Speaking as someone with experience in the industry, I know game developers tend to be incredibly passionate and hard working, but there is a legitimate critique to be made in the chosen design direction of the heads.

Personally I love you guys and think you do amazing work, certain things like killing Wintermint / the lack of client features are grating, but I don't blame the average dev for that.
