Me and the squad have been actively trying to participate in all the Clashes and its' iterations. And although the game-mode did not change much after being beta'ed and released a second time, there is definitely some room for improvement.

1) Polish

  • Scouting phase bugs. One bug that we saw repeatedly is the mix up between stats and the respective summoner. In other words, champion mastery points, history, and all that available information were sometimes mixed up between the enemy team members.

  • Also related to the scouting phase. Please make it so the names of the enemy can be copy pasted. I am sure majority of teams do use third-party websites to conduct further scouting so that would be a good QoL change.

  • Leader-boards. An avenue for further recognition (Tier specific), can also tie in even more rewards for teams that are consistently winning and staying on-top of leader-boards.

  • The ability to add a sub. That option was not available for our team, and IIRC it was a feature in prior versions.

  • Would be a nice touch if the old ranked select music was used for Clash pick and ban phase. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIOh512j8XM <-- a reminder for all the boomers :p

  • General bugs. This is a vague one but our team did not encounter any big bugs but we did get a 'free' win in the loser's bracket because the team did not show up for the match. Not sure if bug or they just tilted to oblivion and rage quit.

I am sure the Clash data is flowing in now, and the team is prioritizating stability and bug fixes.

2) Future of Clash

  • The initial iteration of Clash where you progressed bracket sizes for winning on previous days is something that should be explored again. This feeling of moving into a bigger tourney (potentially earning better rewards(?)) will definitely amp the competitiveness of the mode.

  • On the topic of rewards, I think RP can also be a good motivator for Clash participation. A reward of true value but also a reward players can control; and in the modern gaming industry that would be a fresh change from all the loot box RNG bullsh*t.

It's not the most exhaustive list and if you feel that you have other recommendations / feedback / bug reports, feel free to add on.

I hope you enjoyed the mode and got some W's.

Cheers.

Thanks for the feedback! Some thoughts:

- Scouting bug - something we are working on literally as I type. Hoping to have that ironed out soon.

- Copy/Paste Names - We got this feedback about the copy/paste thing for names in scouting a couple times, so I'll start digging into what that would take. It wasn't something we had planned, but it sounds reasonable!

- Leaderboards - definitely something we're considering in some capacity. In general, we think Clash is doing a decent job now of getting a simple, one weekend tournament system into place, but there's a LOT we could do for team legacy and recognition. We really haven't scratched the surface of the cool stuff we can do in that space.

- Subs - we probably won't bring subs back for this structure of Clash. We want your team to stay the same once you get into a bracket (partly because we want scouting to stay limited to just 5 players, and partly because we think it feels less like a team event if people are jumping around every game). Since you can change teams from Saturday-> Sunday, you can sub people in between days, but the old sub system made things super complicated (both for players and for our poor backend engineers trying to catch every edge case of who was on a team when). If we bring back multiday clash, we'd probably have some kind of sub system, but not sure if it would work the same way.

- Old Ranked Select Music - this would be cool, but there are some technical limitations here :) Love the idea, though!

- Free win - This is most likely because the opposing team resigned from the tournament before playing the game. Not a bug, but the user experience there isn't so hot right now. Definitely could give more info about what happened.

- Three Day Clash - we agree, there was a lot to like about the old format, especially for extra competitive folks. Also a lot not to like about it, like how it tended to make things catch fire. I think there's a future where we can bring it back in some format, but probably not for something as big as a standard, everyone can play Clash tournament.

- RP as a Prize - full transparency, this is super unlikely for a couple reasons. First, RP prizes can put us into some weird space legally, because RP is a bit too close to regular money. I can't give you a full explanation here cause I am Not a Lawyer, sorry! Second, we want to keep Clash entry fees reasonable, and the amount of RP we could give out for a reasonable entry would not be enough to purchase something you'd really want. Taking away some control over how the prize is redeemed lets us give away some more exciting prizes (though I totally get wishing you had more control over how the prizes work!) We're going to keep testing out new things for Prizes in the future, but I'm fairly certain RP won't be part of it.

Also, don’t make east coast players play till midnight on a Sunday. I feel as though mid afternoon games are extremely reasonable for west coast players so everyone can participate and then get to bed and not feel tired on Monday

Generally, we're trying to hit the most players possible with our Clash timings, but unfortunately, time zones in NA can make that pretty annoying for one half of the country or the other.

We're not necessarily going to run Clash at the same time every time, though, and I would be shocked if we never tried a slightly earlier set of times in NA.
