[2022] Is playing mechanically simpler characters bad or it isn't?

I reached Diamond 4 right not so long ago (someone would laugh at this, but this is an achievement to me due to getting it only solo, without duo and i want to improve even more), but I'm being often laughed by my friends that I reached this because I played "simple" as they say characters like Rammus, Sejuani jng or Tanks and Kayle top and I would sit in Plat at most if I was playing something like Katarina or Akali and not one-button champs as they say.
And that often troubles me and leaves me thoughts like is it really that bad?
So I want to actually ask: is it really that bad? Like I couldn't achieve this without macro knowledge anyways, and aren't champions with less mechanics have a larger window to outplay them?
