Hi! This years MSI marks now my 8th year of watching League of Legends Esports, and now finally after 8 years i’ve got the itch to actually start playing myself, but im unsure how to actually get started…

During these years of watching LoL Esports i’ve learned some aspects of the game; like how roles are generally played, what different terms mean, what match ups are mostly good and what are bad etc. But from what i’ve heard, the community might not always be so welcoming towards new players :D. And thats why i would like to ask if anyone knows any good material for learning (preferably free content), like What channels to watch or what websites to read from. Before i start spamming solo queue.

Im mostly interested in playing support, since from what i’ve seen, the gameplay seems pretty flexible and more forgiving than actual carry roles. The other role i would like is propably Top, since i could also play somewhat supporting role with a frontline tank etc, and remain isolated for majority of the game split pushing or farming (-objectives, necessary roams etc)

I get that Playing the Game is the fastest way to learn, but if anyone has any pointers or material that helps with the huge amount of mechanics and information this game has to offer i would gladly listen to your advices! None of my friends play the game so i dont have anyone close to ask for help/teaching.

Thank you for your time and Help!

My recommendation as someone who's thinking a lot about the new player experience is to play Co-Op vs. AI with a friend.

One of the challenging things about traditional Summoner's Rift gameplay is how bound the success of the lanes are. This means that you can be doing your best, fail (which is normal in all things when starting out), and significantly impact the other 4 people on your team. They obviously won't enjoy this, and might tell you so. That negative feedback loop makes trying new things extremely punishing.

Bots with a friend is more tolerant of mistakes, helps you try more things, and you can learn from a human being who can adapt their advice to your specific needs in a supportive way. I am assuming you have friends who are nice people. If you don't have any friends who are playing League DM me and I can do a game or two with you :)
