This is just a hypothetical question about what you feel would happen if top and bottom lane became connected to each other via the alcoves? How would the meta switch up? What champions would be good or bad?

Obviously this will never happen as even though the role meta is super stale, any deviation would be met with players rioting over something that upends their norm

We tested this extensively when we were working on Hextech Terrain, it made it pretty far in. It was pretty wild and made split pushing un-answerable. Was an absolute blast to use but turned the game into an absolute fiesta where you couldn't chase down anyone.

Did you implement this by adding hex gates, or did you create an infinite map? The latter sounds like it would require substantial changes to the game's code.

just hex gates

Aw. Man that would have been sick. We're there any other wacky ideas like that that didn't quite make the cut?

Too many to count, theres always a few every year. Some of the ones off the top of my head from over the years (some before my time):

Dragons you could ride into battle on (basically just a fancy version of the URF cannon).

A 1v1 to the death that also has a with a Rift-Herald esque monster involved, winner reclaims the entire gold deficit if their team is losing.

A vote to destroy your nexus towers in order to gain Elder buff as a last-ditch effort.

They're onto us! CRAP

The 1v1 idea reminds me of my first MOBA, Hero Wars (warcraft 3 custom game). Every few minutes, there would be a duel where a random number of players would enter from each team. e.g. 1v1, 2v2, up to entire team brawls. (Actually, in some versions of the game it was 1v1 only, in some it was random amounts). There would be fat gold incentives for winning these duels, and the losers would lose gold. Also, each player not in the duel could bet gold on who would win. So much fun!

I loved Hero Wars. It was a big part of why I started playing league. Thanks for the blast from the past!

Funny you say that, I think Hero Wars is the original in-development name for "League of Legends" in our internal files.
