This is from a video on Dopa’s youtube channel, where he talks about the 4 teams that have made semis. I translated it quickly before semis.

(Dopa turns on stream) There’s about 50 hours left until Worlds semis, do you guys want a 50-hour long Worlds waiting stream?

(Chat: Really? OMG, Yes, Kyaa~)

Kyaa? Hah, no way. Did you really think I’d do that? Nope. I’m just here to talk about the 4 teams left at Worlds. JDG, T1, GEN.G and DRX.

JDG

In a way, JDG is a truly unfortunate team. Even though they’re always in contention for the best team in the LPL, their fandom size is always dead last. JDG has very few fans. In fact, they have extremely few fans, especially when compared to the strength of the team. Instead of fans, they have anti fans. There are hordes of antis all over the place. If they lose? People say that they’ve finally been exposed. If they win? No one really cares. You get the feeling, right?

I probably wouldn’t have cared about JDG myself if Kanavi wasn’t on the team. Still, since I am personally very close to Kanavi, I want him and his team to do well. Whenever I watch Kanavi, I’m always impressed by his raw skill. He’s 0.1 seconds faster than other people in every aspect. And he’s definitely the center of the team. JDG will either rise or fall depending on how well Kanavi plays. And their mid Yagao also looks sort of… likeable/agreeable. I don’t really know much about the other members. It the same for you guys, right? I’m not the only one who’s clueless?

(Chat: Don’t people know about 369?)

Sure, I guess people know who 369 is when they hear his name. Wait, wasn’t JDG’s top originally someone else? (Scans chat) Right, JDG switched top laners with TES. This reminds me of something. Miya told me that the reason JDG Zoom and TES 369 switched spots was because TES wasn’t happy with 369’s performance. But after the trade happened, Zoom didn’t do well on TES while 369 popped off on JDG. An interesting tidbit.

Against T1, I don’t really see JDG winning. I predict a 70% chance for a 3 – 0, and a 30% chance for a 3 – 1. I get that JDG look strong, but I’m basing this on performance so far at Worlds.

(Chat: Didn’t you predict the GEN / DK game to be 3 – 0 as well? Hmm…)

(Smiles) Anyone can have wrong predictions~

T1

T1 is poised to win it all. The only team that can match GEN.G blow for blow. And if Faker wins Worlds again? Then Faker will cement his spot as a legend among legends. Watching T1 play, I see that an era has passed. So many great players, players who were always at the top of the standings, are gone now. Faker, Deft… and that’s it. The old guard is gone now, only leaving Faker and Deft. It’s the beginning of a new era of dominance. T1 has 3 young players from T1’s youth program in Zeus, Oner, and Gumayusi playing alongside Keria. Players like Chovy, Showmaker, Zeka, Zeus, Oner, Guma, and Keria will probably dominate the league for the next 5 to 10 years. These supernovas are blinding now, but they’re going to burn even brighter in the future. Just like Faker has reigned supreme for a decade, starting from season 2, these guys are going to reign for years to come.

T1 showed us the strength of their bot duo in quarters. T1 is looking extraordinarily powerful, and I think they’ll face off against GEN in the finals. I can’t even imagine the wave of emotions that will follow if Faker wins Worlds again. If you think about it, even though Faker has won Worlds 3 times, the wins were concentrated in the beginning of his career. They haven’t been as dominant for quite a while. But after all that, if Faker manages to win Worlds again through sheer effort and dedication, Wow. That’s an epic tale, a story that moves you to tears.

Oh, and even if T1 doesn’t manage to win, I think they will continue to do well in the future. Faker will be a constant, consistent as always, but I don’t think that any of the other players on T1 are going to leave the team. T1 will rule for a long time. I think T1 will try again next year with the exact same members.

GEN.G

I think GEN.G has the highest chance of winning Worlds. The undeniable strongest team. Also, GEN.G has Chovy, and I personally want to see Chovy win Worlds. This team has 3 former Griffin players, Chovy, Doran and Lehends. Another reason why I want to see GEN.G win. (Pauses) And no Cvmax.

(Chat: LUL)

I think there’s a 90% chance that the finals will be T1 vs GEN.G. If these two were to meet in the finals, who am I rooting for? That’s a tough question. I personally want to see GEN.G win, but I think T1 winning will be so much more emotional. I mean, you really can’t compare seeing Faker win again with anything else. Maybe if Deft finally got to win Worlds? Deft winning vs Faker winning might be comparable in emotion. But still, it’s about time that Chovy won Worlds. It breaks my heart when people diss Chovy saying that he hasn’t won yet. I also want to see Doran win worlds because I’m a bit sorry. Apparently, Doran was watching my stream when I was sh*tting on his play, and Cvmax told me that he was feeling hurt because of it. You know what, I think this is the perfect time to apologize with a video.

(Kneels on bed) Dear Doran. I am sorry that my scathing remarks hurt your soul. It was all my fault. Doran, will you accept my apology? (Gets back in chair)

(Chat: What kind of apology video is out of frame?)

Wait, you couldn’t see my face?

(Miya: It’s fine, I’ll photoshop your face onto the apology video later.)

DRX

I don’t think anybody really thought much about DRX before quarters, but the DRX vs EDG game definitely grabbed everybody’s attention. Especially game 2. Now, everyone is super emotionally invested in DRX. The respawning inhibitor from game 2 will go down in history. People are going to talk about this whenever something even remotely similar happens until league ends.

If you think about it, it’s a relief that they won, especially from Deft’s point of view. You barely made it back to Worlds, your teammates are all performing well, and then bam. How could you possibly be this unlucky? This just doesn’t make any sense. If DRX lost 3-2, then the scars would last for a lifetime. But since he won, it just makes it all the more fun. It’s actually better that you lost game 2 in an incredible way. Why? Because now you can talk about this for the rest of your life. He’ll be like “Remember game 2 from our EDG game? I thought we were cursed – but we still managed to win anyways.”, and laugh about it. Imagine if DRX had lost. Do you think I would be talking about this? No. No one would be able to bring up the subject.

The series also makes you wonder what Zeka will be worth next year. This was the single greatest solo carry mid performance of Worlds. Still, it shows how much can ride on a single play, a single moment. Think about the first solo kill. If things had played out differently, Zeka might have died. Do you think Zeka intended to be hit by Akali’s e? No. Smalls details like that… “A person does what they can, and leaves the rest to the heavens.” (진인사대천명 or 盡人事待天命, a famous saying. Man proposes, god disposes.) Luck definitely plays an important role.

I don’t think that DRX can beat GEN.G, but DRX winning would also create an emotional story. In a way, all of the remaining 4 teams have players that I’m rooting for. Kanavi for JDG, Faker for T1, Chovy for GEN.G, and Deft for DRX. I think I’d prefer if an LCK team won it all, but I would also love to see Kanavi win. How come every team in semis has so many emotional ties? Was this the case for last Worlds too? It’s really is heartbreaking that only 1 team can win Worlds.

Random Q&A with chat

(Chat: How much is it worth to be the runner up at Worlds?)

I’m sorry to say this, but for the team itself, pretty much… nothing. More than the results themselves, it’s more important to see how well each player played in the tournament, all the way to the finals. Even if you lost, if you went to 5 games and solo-killed the enemy every single game, then that could be meaningful. If you showcased incredible plays and macro, then that’s worth a lot.

I mean, it’s not completely meaningless to be second, but winning the tournament is so much more meaningful. For example, I think having 1 account at rank 1 is so much more meaningful than having 3 accounts in the top 10.

(Chat: what if you have 9 accounts in the top 10?)

LOL. (laughs while talking) I don’t know, but I pity that guy.

TL notes

Hi, I’m Yoon! I translate things, and you may have seen my other translations here. Some of you might be wondering why Dopa is so close to Kanavi, and who Miya is. Miya is Dopa’s translator/housekeeper, she translates for his Chinese streams. To the best of my knowledge, there are 3 people who stayed at Dopa’s house when they had nowhere else to go. 15(?) year old TheShy, who apparently peaked higher than 2018 TheShy, stayed there for a while before he was old enough to go pro. Kanavi lived there during the whole Griffin slave contract fiasco, when his future was super unclear. Cvmax worked at Dopa’s house as a professional instant ramen cooker and house guard when he was banned from working as a coach. He lived in a tent, an actual tent, in Dopa’s living room. So Dopa is great friends with those 3.

These days, Dopa usually talks in a very happy, fun fashion. (People jokingly call him a clown) Over the years, he’s mellowed out a bit and turned into more of a professional streamer. I’ve tried to preserve the tone as much as possible, as many of my previous translations painted him as very serious – which he usually isn’t. Of course, he can be very serious at times as well. Anyways, thanks for reading this far!

Tldr, Predictions

There are so many emotional storylines at worlds.

T1 3 – 0 JDG 70%, T1 3 – 1 JDG 30%

GEN.G > DRX (Another post says he predicted 3 – 1 or 3 – 2, but I can’t find the source)

GEN.G is favored to win against T1 in finals 3 – 2 (Again, same post)
