[2020] Is the lore worth reading?

Hello, I'm trying to write a piece that is quite similar to the atmosphere of League's world and am looking for mentor texts. I've had little experience with the game, so I don't have any attachments to any of the champions. Considering that, is the lore interesting enough on its own?

Edit: follow up question, are there any short stories that have a focus on action that you'd recommend?
