Hello PLATYPUS!

Sorry for the slow reply; I was out of town visiting a friend. With the increase in players recently, I've been getting similar reports once or twice a day, so I put together the following guide with things to try.

If unable to connect to matchmaker:
  • Cause: Likely an internet issue or our matchmaker's IP is blacklisted or the port isn't open.
  • Potential Solutions: Aside from making sure ports 8082 and 8083 are open, see the general solutions below.

If it's not a matchmaker connection issue, then it's a Photon issue. Photon is a popular third-party library for gameplay networking. As much as I like to know when people are having connections issues with MageQuit, all I can really do is relay the reports to the makers of Photon, which is why I put the following list of potential solutions together.

If unable to retrieve pings:
If dropping from the match as soon as the game starts or soon after:
  • Cause: intermittent connection or bad install
  • Potential Solutions: see general solutions below.
  • Long Term Solutions: our next patch relaxes the constraints that fire a disconnect; this should reduce the likelihood of disconnects.

General possible solutions for connection issues:
  • Try connecting to internet over ethernet
  • If already over ethernet, try WiFi (ethernet generally works better)
  • Restart the game
  • Restart your PC
  • Restart your router and/or modem
  • Reinstall the game
  • Try on a different network (if available)
  • Try on a different PC on the same network (this is more for Troubleshooting to figure out if it's the network or the PC)
  • Try again later?? As much as I hate to say it, sometimes Photon has brief downtime and things will be fine again later. Not a great solution, but it does happen on occasion.

If you are still having issues after these steps, please let me know and I can attempt to assist you further!
