I'm 34 years old and have been playing magic on and off since I was 8. I've had and lost many a collection and since I had kids, I thought magic was done for me

Enter Magic: Arena.

I saw someone mention arena somewhere and I decided to give it a try. I've played lots of mobile games and even ones with fun novel mechanics get buried behind a paywall at somepoint, or the game is full of bots or grinding becomes exponentially harder

I was looking for something with more substance and I've found it.

The freemium model is FANTASTIC compared to other mobile games. You can make meaningful progression without spending a dime, amassing quite the collection. If you complete your daily wins and quest, that's at least 1k gold - a whole free PACK per day

That might not seem like a lot but by golly I've never gotten a free pack of magic cards in my life. The fact that you can acquire cards at a meaningful rate is amazing.

The wild card system is equitable and fair. They may not distribute them fast, but the ability to redeem a wild for any card of same rarity opens arena up so much more than paper magic. I never have to spend more than 2.50 for a rare, or 5$ for a mythic, if I choose to spend anything at all.

I love the growing collection I have. It feels like an rpg in some ways, where my card pool grows slowly over time..strategically picking wich rare or mythic I redeem to enhance my latest deck, or start amassing resources to try something completely different

That is one drawback..you are limited to the direction you choose to go in. I play mono white and mono green, and to start playing blue red would require a lot of cards I don't have.

But that's exactly how paper magic is too! Except if you want to pivot, you can for way less money and potentially COMPLETELY FREE

Matchmaking has been fun. I seem to get to the rank that puts me near a 50% win loss and stay there. Highest so far is plat2 but honestly rank doesn't matter to me that much as each rank only grants you an additional pack

What I'm far more interested in is playing riveting games of magic on demand at near equal playing level, and that's what I get

I could never play this much mtg in real life. I played 8 matches this morning like nothing..stomping. and sometimes getting stomped. It's thrilling either way

Magic Arena is great for people who just want to play magic against other real people

That's all I wanted to say. I've been playing since last November and having a great time. Jump in was fun, precons can be tedious but fun, drafting is fun but I'm terrible at it. I just like ripping packs open

Play well planeswalker and if your on the fence just jump in

This is my experience to a tee. I've spent wayyyy more time thinking about magic and looking at my cards than playing. Now i play 15-20 games a day and it's so much fun! Add me as a friend I'd love to duel some time (how do I find my shareable in game username?)

It's on your profile screen. You'll want to make sure to tell people the #1234 after your username as well.

And really awesome to hear that you're loving the game! Posts like this and players like you are a big part of why we make this game.
