Was playing simic Nexus, faced Esper control.

After sides he brought in Ashiok, tried to mill me out, I said fine, it works out for me, he can help me combo out.

Eventually, he milled a couple copies of Nexus and they went to Exile. This is 100% not how the interaction is supposed to work.

Edit:

Just clearing out the rules(614.1a). Nexus of Fate shuffle is not a triggered ability, it's a replacement effect. It should never touch the graveyard, and as such, should never be exiled by Ashiok, as Nexus' shuffle doesn't even use the stack.

Gaea's Blessing has a similar shuffle ability, Blessing's ability, however, is a triggered ability, and it should be exiled by Ashiok before the trigger resolves.

Edit 2:

Checked in with a Judge on https://chat.magicjudges.org/mtgrules/. Nexus should NOT be exiled by Ashiok.

Yup, that sounds wrong. I'll try to fix it tomorrow and post here what's going on (because I'm pretty surprised!). #wotc_staff

EDIT: We're not having success reproducing this. If anyone runs into this issue, I'd really appreciate a video! Alternatively your username and the time of the game could help us track down the logs for the game. Feel free to reply here or PM me.

Hey, if you weren't aware, if you steal Narset with Mass Manipulation, it still prevents you from drawing cards, even though Narset is under your control. Really frustrating bug that is costing me a lot of games versus esper :(.

Yup, aware of that one, fix will be live soon. Thanks! #wotc_staff

Similar thing happens with Tamiyo.

If opponent steals your creature and attempts to sacrifice it, Tamiyo is preventing that even though it's not under your control anymore.

Yup, my fix covers both. #wotc_staff
